Plot:

The narrative of Gatta Kusthi is set in a picturesque rural town in Tamil Nadu, opening with Veera (Vishnu Vishal), a carefree, uneducated young man who manages a modest local kabaddi team and lives a comfortable life supported by his family's property. Veera is deeply conditioned by patriarchal traditions, a mindset heavily reinforced by his scheming, chauvinistic maternal uncle, Ratnam (Karunas). When the time comes for Veera to get married, he lays down an absurdly strict, regressive checklist of criteria for his prospective bride: she must be less educated than him, completely submissive, timid, soft-spoken, and above all, possess long, traditional hair. Veera firmly believes that a wife's sole duty is to serve her husband without questioning his authority, making it nearly impossible for local marriage brokers to find a woman who fits his rigid demands.

Meanwhile, across the state border in Kerala, Keerthi (Aishwarya Lekshmi) lives a radically different life. Keerthi is a courageous, highly educated young woman and a passionate, national-level Gatta Kusthi (submission wrestling) champion. Raised by her supportive parents, Keerthi spends her days training under her strict coach (Hareesh Peradi) and winning local tournaments. However, her aggressive athletic career and short haircut become a major hurdle when her family tries to arrange her marriage. Prospective grooms and their traditional families continuously reject her, fearing her physical strength and independent spirit. Desperate to see his niece settled, Keerthi's bumbling uncle, Ganesan (Munishkanth), devises a risky deception. Having heard of Veera’s desperate search for a bride in Tamil Nadu, Ganesan fits Keerthi with artificial hair extensions, instructs her to conceal her college degree and wrestling accomplishments, and presents her to Veera's family as a shy, uneducated village girl who loves domestic chores. Unaware of the grand fraud, a delighted Veera immediately consents to the alliance, and the two are married in a grand traditional ceremony.

Following the wedding, Keerthi moves into Veera's ancestral home, initiating a difficult phase where she must constantly suppress her natural strength, athletic instincts, and outspoken personality to maintain the facade of a timid, dutiful wife. She endures Veera’s casual chauvinism and Ratnam’s overbearing interference, finding small moments of relief only when she is alone. However, the domestic charade comes to a sudden and violent halt during a local neighborhood dispute. When a gang of ruthless local goons ambushes Veera and Ratnam in a public market, threatening to severely harm them, Keerthi's protective instincts kick in. Dropping her meek persona, Keerthi unleashes her full wrestling prowess, physically decimating the entire gang of goons in front of a stunned crowd of villagers. He officially registers for the open submission wrestling tournament, intending to climb the ranks and challenge Keerthi in a public match to prove male superiority. However, as Veera spends time in the disciplined environment of the wrestling academy, he begins to witness the immense dedication, physical pain, and hard work required by athletes, regardless of their gender.

The climax of the film takes place inside a packed sports arena during the finals of the Gatta Kusthi tournament, where a series of unexpected match forfeits and bracket shifts lead to a historic, unconventional face-off: Veera versus Keerthi in the official wrestling ring.
