120 Bahadur (2025)
Summary
120 Bahadur (translates to 120 Bravehearts) is an anticipated Indian Hindi-language historical war film that chronicles one of the most heroic last stands in military history: the Battle of Rezang La during the 1962 Sino-Indian War. The film is a tribute to Major Shaitan Singh Bhati and the 120 soldiers of the Charlie Company, 13 Kumaon Regiment, who, despite being heavily outnumbered (facing an estimated 3,000 Chinese troops) and battling extreme high-altitude conditions in Ladakh, chose to fight to the last man and the last bullet to defend their post. Starring Farhan Akhtar as Major Shaitan Singh, the movie aims to honor the unparalleled courage, selflessness, and valor of these soldiers, whose sacrifice prevented a strategic Chinese advance.
Plot
The film is a dramatic retelling of the true events that transpired on November 18, 1962, high up on the Rezang La pass in Eastern Ladakh.
The narrative is reportedly framed through the recollections of one of the few surviving soldiers of the battle, looking back on the immense bravery of his comrades. It focuses on Major Shaitan Singh Bhati (played by Farhan Akhtar), who commands the Charlie Company of the 13 Kumaon Regiment, comprised mostly of Ahir soldiers.
Set against the backdrop of the intense Sino-Indian War, the 120 men are deployed at a crucial, remote post at 18,000 feet above sea level. They face not only the onslaught of a numerically superior Chinese force but also the brutal challenge of fighting in sub-zero temperatures with limited resources and equipment.
Major Shaitan Singh is shown as an inspirational and resolute leader who motivates his men to hold their ground, refusing to retreat despite overwhelming odds. The heart of the film lies in the fierce, desperate, and often hand-to-hand combat between the 120 Indian soldiers and the Chinese contingent. Every man fights until he falls, embodying the quote attributed to Major Shaitan Singh: "Hum Peechhe Nahin Hatenge!" (We will not retreat!).
The climax captures the legendary last stand, where the 120 bravehearts fight with such ferocity that they inflict massive casualties on the enemy, ultimately ensuring the safety of the crucial nearby Chushul village before the post is overrun. The film concludes by honoring the sacrifice of Major Shaitan Singh, who was posthumously awarded the Param Vir Chakra, India's highest military decoration, for his extraordinary leadership and courage.
