"Anjani Puthraa" (2017) is a high-octane action drama, weaving a narrative of family, redemption, and explosive justice. Viraj, affectionately known as Raja, is the charismatic heir to the prestigious Raj Group, a sprawling cloth manufacturing empire. However, a bitter misunderstanding leads to his disownment by his formidable mother and the matriarch of their joint family, Anjana Devi.
Years later, Raja has carved out a life for himself as a moneylender, living amidst the vibrant chaos of his friends, Chikka and Karimale. He’s a man of the people, his heart as big as his fists, and he’s found love in the form of Geetha, a spirited and affluent young woman. Despite his disinheritance, Raja retains the inherent nobility of his lineage, a trait that will soon be tested.
The catalyst for the film's conflict arrives in the form of Bhairava, a ruthless businessman and hitman operating from Pollachi. Bhairava’s influence stretches far, and his methods are as brutal as they are effective. He is involved in a complex web of illegal activities, and his path crosses with Raja’s in a dramatic and violent encounter.
At a crowded theatre, Raja witnesses a group of North Indian assassins targeting ASP Surya Prakash, a newly transferred police officer, and his wife. Surya Prakash has been assigned to investigate a case involving Bhairava’s illicit dealings, making him a marked man. Without hesitation, Raja intervenes, unleashing a torrent of swift and decisive action, saving the officer and his wife from certain death. This act of heroism marks the beginning of a dangerous rivalry between Raja and Bhairava.
The conflict deepens when Raja discovers Bhairava’s plot to illegally seize land that Raja’s late father, Muthuraju, had generously donated to a village temple. This act of betrayal against his father’s legacy ignites a fire within Raja, fueling his determination to protect his family’s honor and the sanctity of the temple.
As the land is officially transferred to the temple, Bhairava’s anger reaches a boiling point. He orders his henchmen to brutally assault Raja’s uncle, Satyaraju, a vicious act intended to intimidate and break Raja’s resolve. However, this attack has the opposite effect. It serves as a catalyst for reconciliation.
Anjana Devi, witnessing the violence and realizing the depth of Bhairava’s malice, finally understands the grave error she made in disowning Raja. She recognizes the truth of his character, the unwavering loyalty and inherent goodness that she had failed to see. A heartfelt reunion ensues, a moment of emotional catharsis that strengthens the bonds of family.
Upon learning of the attack on his uncle, Raja unleashes his fury. He systematically dismantles Bhairava’s network of henchmen, delivering a brutal and uncompromising message. Bhairava, in a desperate attempt to eliminate Raja, confronts him directly. However, Raja, fueled by righteous anger and a fierce determination to protect his family, overpowers and humiliates Bhairava in full view of the public, stripping him of his power and authority.
With the support of Surya Prakash and the unwavering loyalty of Geetha, Raja embarks on a mission to dismantle Bhairava’s criminal empire. They work together, using their combined resources and skills to expose Bhairava’s illegal activities and capture the North Indian assassins. This coordinated effort leads to the issuance of an arrest warrant for Bhairava, bringing him one step closer to justice.
However, Bhairava’s treachery knows no bounds. During the temple festival, a moment of celebration and unity, Bhairava’s second wife, acting on his orders, infiltrates the festivities and stabs Anjana Devi with a venomous knife. Anjana Devi, though gravely wounded, survives the attack, her resilience mirroring her son’s.
This act of violence pushes Raja beyond his limits. He vows to avenge his mother and bring Bhairava to justice, no matter the cost. He embarks on a perilous journey to Jodhpur, the heart of Bhairava’s operations. There, he confronts Bhairava and his ruthless accomplice, Raj Thakur, in a final, explosive showdown. Raja, driven by a burning desire for retribution, eliminates both men, delivering a swift and brutal end to their reign of terror.
Returning home, Raja is welcomed by his family with open arms. The wounds of the past have healed, and the family is reunited, stronger than ever. Geetha and her family join the celebration, solidifying their bond with Raja and his family. The film concludes with a heartwarming family photo, a symbol of unity, love, and the triumph of good over evil. Raja, the disowned son, has returned as the savior, the Anjani Puthraa, proving that family and justice are the cornerstones of his existence.
