Plot:

The story begins in 1989, where a younger Hank Pym, then Ant-Man, resigns from S.H.I.E.L.D. after discovering they attempted to replicate his Pym Particles. He vows to keep his revolutionary shrinking technology out of the wrong hands, haunted by the loss of his wife, Janet van Dyne, who seemingly vanished into the subatomic Quantum Realm decades prior while disarming a Soviet missile. Fast forward to the present, Scott Lang, a highly skilled electrical engineer and master thief, is released from San Quentin State Prison. Despite his intelligence, his criminal record makes finding legitimate work impossible, hindering his ability to pay child support and see his beloved daughter, Cassie, whose mother, Maggie, and stepfather, Paxton, are wary of his influence.

Desperate, Scott reluctantly agrees to one last heist proposed by his former cellmate, Luis, and their crew, Dave and Kurt. They target the mansion of an elderly man, believing it to contain a valuable safe. Scott expertly cracks the safe, only to find a peculiar motorcycle suit rather than cash. Disappointed, he takes the suit home and, out of curiosity, tries it on. Accidentally activating it, he shrinks to the size of an ant, experiencing a terrifying, disorienting journey through his apartment, narrowly escaping a vacuum cleaner and a rat, before growing back to normal. Overwhelmed, Scott returns the suit to the mansion, but is promptly arrested. In jail, he is confronted by Hank Pym, who reveals he orchestrated the entire heist to test Scott. Cornered and with Cassie's life on the line, Scott makes a desperate choice. To defeat Cross, he shrinks to subatomic levels, entering the Quantum Realm, a dimension beyond normal space and time, mirroring his wife's fate. He uses this subatomic state to sabotage Cross's Yellowjacket suit from the inside, causing it to implode and effectively defeat Cross. Hank Pym, watching the events unfold, believes Scott is lost forever. However, Scott, remembering Hope's advice about using a Pym Particle disc to reverse the shrinking, manages to expand back to normal size, returning from the Quantum Realm, much to Hank and Hope's relief. Briefly, Hank sees a ghostly image of Janet in the Quantum Realm, giving him hope that she might still be alive. In the aftermath, Scott reconciles with Maggie and Paxton, proving himself a hero to Cassie. Hope and Hank begin to mend their fractured relationship, with Hank revealing a new, more advanced Wasp suit, implying Hope's future as a superhero. The film ends with a mid-credits scene featuring Falcon and Captain America discussing the Winter Soldier, and a post-credits scene where Hank shows Hope the Wasp suit, telling her it's time.
