Plot:

The story of Baankey Ki Crazy Baraat is set in the vibrant, chaotic heartland of Uttar Pradesh, where the socio-cultural importance of marriage and the rigid beliefs in astrological horoscopes (kundali) collide to create a perfect storm of comedy. The narrative introduces us to Baankey Sharma, a 35-year-old, unemployed, hyperactive, and incredibly goofy man-child who has reached a state of absolute desperation regarding his bachelorhood. While his peers have settled down, Baankey is constantly rejected in the marriage market. The underlying reason for his bad luck is a severe astrological defect, or dosh, in his horoscope, which the local priests claim will bring ruin to anyone who marries him unless a highly complex, virtually impossible set of conditions is met. Despite the warnings of the stars, Baankey's heart is set on finding a bride, and his life takes a dramatic turn when he receives a marriage proposal from Anjali, a beautiful, sweet-natured, and educated young woman from a respectable family.

Baankey immediately falls head over heels in love with Anjali's photograph and insists that his family finalize the alliance, completely disregarding his astronomical shortcomings. His doting but traditional father, Nandlal, is equally eager to see his son settled but is stopped in his tracks when the family priest confirms that matching their horoscopes is an absolute disaster. Refusing to let his dream of a grand wedding fade away, a relentless Baankey throws a massive tantrum, forcing his family to seek a desperate loophole. Nandlal, alongside Baankey’s highly shrewd, manipulative moneylender uncle, Kanhaiyalal, and a local, gun-toting village goon named Lallan Bhaiyya, corner the family priest. Under immense physical and financial pressure, the trembling priest offers a highly unconventional and legally dubious solution: a proxy wedding. He suggests that they hire a handsome, educated "proxy" groom to substitute for Baankey during the actual wedding rituals at the altar, ensuring the stars are tricked, after which Baankey can step in as the rightful husband once the bride is brought to their home.

Kanhaiyalal and Lallan immediately set out to execute this bizarre scheme. They find a young, struggling actor named Rajesh, who looks presentable and is thrilled to accept a payout of one lakh rupees to play the fake groom for a mere two days. The plans are set, the wedding invitations are sent, and the baraat (wedding procession) prepares to depart for the bride's village. However, on the morning of the wedding, disaster strikes when Rajesh fails to show up, having bolted out of fear of the local goons. With the wedding bus filled with relatives waiting to depart and the bride's family expecting the groom's arrival, panic erupts. In a desperate, split-second decision, Kanhaiyalal and Lallan corner the young, handsome bus driver, Virat Sharma, who also happens to be the son of a man heavily indebted to Kanhaiyalal. Recognizing Virat's sharp looks and desperate financial state, they offer to completely waive his father's substantial debt if he agrees to put on the groom's sherwani and act as the proxy for the next forty-eight hours.

Virat, feeling he has no other choice to save his family from ruin, reluctantly agrees to the bizarre proposition. He is quickly dressed in the groom's attire, his face heavily obscured by the traditional sehra (floral veil), and boarded onto his own bus. The wedding procession arrives at Anjali's house, and the festivities begin in full swing. However, the plan immediately goes off-script as Virat and Anjali are introduced. Over the course of the pre-wedding rituals and quiet conversations, Virat’s genuine charm, intelligence, and humility completely win over Anjali, who believes him to be the actual groom she was promised. Unbeknownst to the scheming family, Virat also finds himself deeply falling for Anjali's grace and warmth. Realizing the absolute leverage he holds over Baankey’s terrified family, Virat begins to play his own game. Throughout the wedding, whenever a crucial ritual is about to be performed, Virat subtly threatens to walk away unless Kanhaiyalal signs off on more of his father's debts. Compelled by the fear of public humiliation, the family is forced to yield, and by the time the final vows are taken, Virat has successfully manipulated them into clearing his family's entire debt.

The tragedy of the deception unfolds after the vidai (farewell), when Anjali is brought back to the Sharma household as a newlywed bride. It is only when she officially enters the house and her veil is lifted that she is introduced to the hyperactive, goofy Baankey as her actual husband, while the handsome "groom" she fell in love with is revealed to be a mere hired driver. Shocked, heartbroken, and feeling deeply violated by the elaborate scam, Anjali locks herself in a room, refusing to accept the marriage. She desperately calls Virat, who is currently sitting alone in his bus outside the house, consumed by immense guilt and realizing that he cannot let the woman he loves be subjected to such a horrific fraud.

Upon receiving her tearful call, Virat sheds all his fears of Lallan and the family’s wrath. He storms into the house, breaks open the door, and rescues Anjali from the clutches of the deceitful family. The narrative shifts into a high-stakes, hilarious pursuit as Virat and Anjali flee the village on foot and by vehicle, with a furious Lallan, Kanhaiyalal, and a heartbroken Baankey chasing them with their gang of local goons. The chase is filled with classic situational comedy, as the lovers use their wits, the chaotic rustic roads, and the help of sympathetic locals to constantly outmaneuver their pursuers. The film concludes on a triumphant and joyful note as Virat and Anjali successfully elope, leaving the scheming family empty-handed and proving that love and honesty will always triumph over superstitious, fraudulent schemes.
