Plot:

The story begins in Judea in the 1st century AD, where Jewish prince Judah Ben-Hur lives a comfortable life. His childhood friend, Messala, returns to Jerusalem as a Roman tribune, eager to assert Roman authority. When a loose tile accidentally falls from Ben-Hur's house during a Roman parade, Messala, despite knowing it was an accident, condemns Ben-Hur to the galleys and imprisons his mother, Miriam, and sister, Tirzah, to make an example. Ben-Hur endures years of brutal slavery, driven by a fierce desire for vengeance against Messala.

During a sea battle, Ben-Hur's galley is destroyed, but he saves the life of the Roman consul Quintus Arrius, who subsequently adopts him. Now a wealthy and respected Roman citizen, Ben-Hur returns to Judea, where he encounters Sheik Ilderim, a wealthy Arab chieftain, and becomes a skilled charioteer. He challenges Messala to a deadly chariot race in the arena, a brutal contest that results in Messala's severe injury and eventual death, but not before revealing that Ben-Hur's mother and sister are alive but afflicted with leprosy.

Ben-Hur finds his family, who are living in a leper colony, and tries to save them. Witnessing the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, Ben-Hur is deeply moved by his message of forgiveness. Miraculously, as Christ dies, Miriam and Tirzah are cured of their leprosy. Ben-Hur, having found spiritual redemption and forgiveness, abandons his quest for revenge and embraces a life of peace, his family restored.
