Summary:
Babli, a charming and street-smart car thief raised in an orphanage, falls in love with Tara, a woman whose car he unknowingly steals. As he tries to win her over and prove his good intentions, he gets entangled with a powerful Hawala king and an eccentric pair of police inspectors, leading to a chaotic chase involving stolen money, kidnapped orphans, and a hilarious quest for redemption and love.
Plot:
The film introduces Babli (Ranbir Kapoor), a flamboyant, uninhibited, and charming young man who has grown up in an orphanage in Delhi. He makes a living as a small-time but skilled car thief, using the proceeds from his crimes to support the orphanage and its children, for whom he cares deeply. He lives by his own moral code, which often blurs the lines between right and wrong.
Babli's life takes a dramatic turn when he encounters Tara Sharma (Pallavi Sharda) at a wedding. He is instantly smitten by her beauty and strong personality. However, Tara, a sophisticated and independent woman, is clearly not impressed by Babli's boisterous and somewhat crude demeanor, often insulting him.
Unbeknownst to him, a new, expensive car that Tara has just bought becomes his next target. Babli steals her car and sells it to Bheem Singh Chandel (Javed Jaffrey), a powerful and ruthless Hawala king (an illegal money transfer operator) who employs Babli for his car theft operations.
When Babli discovers that the stolen car belonged to the woman he is falling for, he feels a rare pang of guilt. Determined to rectify his mistake and win Tara's affection, he offers to help her get her car back from Chandel. Tara, desperate to retrieve her vehicle, reluctantly agrees to accompany him to Chandigarh, where Chandel operates.
During their journey, Tara discovers that it was none other than Babli himself who stole her car. Initially furious, she is slowly swayed by Babli's earnest apologies and his explanation that he commits these petty crimes to support the orphanage. He promises to change his ways if given a chance.
Babli and Tara manage to steal the car back from Chandel. On their way back to Delhi, they discover a large bag full of Hawala cash in the car, belonging to Chandel. Babli, seeing this as a windfall, decides to keep the money for his orphanage.
Meanwhile, Inspector Chulbul Chautala (Rishi Kapoor) and his wife, Head Constable Bulbul Chautala (Neetu Kapoor), an eccentric and somewhat bumbling pair of police officers, have been relentlessly pursuing Babli for his car thefts. They finally manage to arrest him. Tara, now deeply concerned for Babli, uses the Hawala cash to bribe Bulbul Chautala, securing Babli's release from prison.
However, Chandel soon tracks them down, furious about the stolen car and, more importantly, the missing cash. As a ruthless act of revenge and to force Babli to return his money, Chandel kidnaps all the children from Babli's orphanage and also brutally beats Babli's best friend, Titu (Amitosh Nagpal), to extract information about Babli's whereabouts and the cash.
Babli and Tara realize they have no choice but to get the money back from the Chautala couple's house to save the children. They sneak into the Chautala's residence, but are confronted by the police duo. Upon hearing the full story of Babli's intentions and the children's plight, Inspector Chulbul and Head Constable Bulbul, despite their initial strictness, decide to help him.
The film culminates in a chaotic and action-packed climax. Babli, armed with the retrieved cash, confronts Chandel to negotiate the release of the children. Just as the exchange is about to happen, Inspector Chulbul and his police force storm the location, leading to a massive shootout. In the ensuing pandemonium, Babli engages in a fierce one-on-one fight with Chandel, ultimately defeating him and rescuing all the kidnapped children.
The story ends with the childless Chautala couple, deeply moved by Babli's selflessness and care for the orphans, deciding to adopt him. They ensure he reforms his ways and embraces a life free from crime. The film concludes on a heartwarming note, with Babli finding a true family and a path to a respectable life, while also winning Tara's love.
