A down-on-his-luck family, famed for their therukoothu (street play) performances, unwittingly becomes entangled in a generations-old family feud involving a haunted ancestral property, mischievous spirits, and a hidden treasure.
The film opens in a vibrant South Indian village, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of therukoothu. We are introduced to the protagonist, GANGA (Yogi Babu), the leader of a struggling therukoothu troupe. Ganga is a talented performer, but his family is burdened by debt and a series of unfortunate events. Their ancestral property, a sprawling, dilapidated nattukottai (a type of heritage mansion), located in a remote part of Tamil Nadu, is rumored to be haunted, making it unsellable and a constant source of financial strain.
A wealthy, US-returned businessman, KARTHIK (a suave antagonist), arrives in the village with his entourage. Karthik is obsessed with acquiring the nattukottai for reasons shrouded in mystery. He is aware of the rumors but dismisses them as mere superstition. He hires Ganga's troupe, desperate for money, to perform at a festival he is organizing, mainly as a ploy to get close to the mansion.
Meanwhile, within the nattukottai, a group of spirits, led by the mischievous and ancient PATTI (Kovai Sarala, in a hilarious role), are awakened by Karthik's arrival. These are not malevolent ghosts but rather the souls of Ganga's ancestors, bound to the property by an unfinished task and a hidden secret. They are playful yet protective of their home and the family lineage.
As Ganga's troupe begins their performance at the festival, strange occurrences begin to unfold. Initially, it's played off as part of the act, with the audience roaring with laughter. But soon, the line between performance and reality blurs. The spirits interact with the performers, creating chaos and confusion. Ganga and his family are terrified but also intrigued.
The nattukottai holds a secret: a hidden treasure, not of gold and jewels, but of ancient medicinal knowledge passed down through generations of * Siddha* practitioners (traditional Tamil medicine). Karthik's true motive is not the property itself but the secret it holds. His family has a history of exploiting this knowledge for personal gain, and he intends to continue the tradition.
Patti and the other spirits communicate with Ganga through cryptic clues embedded in the therukoothu performances, revealing the history of the nattukottai, the secret of the Siddha knowledge, and the injustice done to them by Karthik's ancestors. Ganga, initially skeptical, begins to understand his family's legacy and the importance of protecting it. He is aided by MEENA (Malavika Menon), a sharp and independent village girl who is well-versed in local folklore and Siddha practices. She sees the truth behind the legends and helps Ganga decipher the spirits' messages.
Karthik, frustrated by the escalating supernatural events, brings in a team of paranormal investigators (a comical bunch of charlatans) to "exorcise" the nattukottai. This leads to a series of hilarious encounters between the investigators, the spirits, and Ganga's troupe. The investigators' modern gadgets and techniques are hilariously outmatched by the ancient magic and wit of the spirits.
The climax occurs during a grand therukoothu performance inside the nattukottai. Ganga, Meena, and the spirits work together to expose Karthik's true intentions and reveal the hidden treasure of Siddha knowledge to the villagers. The performance becomes a powerful medium to tell the story of the past, warn about the dangers of greed, and celebrate the rich cultural heritage. A final showdown ensues, combining traditional therukoothu elements with supernatural twists, where Ganga, empowered by his ancestors' blessings, confronts Karthik.
In the end, Karthik is defeated, and the nattukottai is restored to its former glory. Ganga and his troupe embrace their heritage, using therukoothu to educate and entertain, while also safeguarding the ancient wisdom. The spirits find peace, their task fulfilled, and the village celebrates the triumph of good over evil, with a grand therukoothu performance that honors both the living and the dead.
