Plot:

The film opens with Steve Rogers (Captain America), Natasha Romanoff (Black Widow), Sam Wilson (Falcon), and Wanda Maximoff (Scarlet Witch) leading a mission in Lagos, Nigeria, to prevent Brock Rumlow (Crossbones) from stealing a biological weapon. During the intense confrontation, Rumlow, cornered, attempts to detonate a suicide vest. Wanda uses her powers to contain the explosion, lifting Rumlow into the air, but inadvertently causes a significant portion of a nearby building to collapse, resulting in numerous civilian casualties. This tragic incident fuels public and international concern over the unchecked power of the Avengers.

In the aftermath, U.S. Secretary of State Thaddeus Ross presents the Avengers with the Sokovia Accords, an international treaty designed to put the team under the oversight of a United Nations panel. Tony Stark (Iron Man), still reeling from the collateral damage caused by Ultron's creation, believes the Accords are necessary for accountability and to prevent future incidents. Steve Rogers, however, distrusts government control, citing past experiences with HYDRA infiltration within S.H.I.E.L.D., and argues that placing heroes under political command would compromise their ability to act effectively and independently. Meanwhile, Steve, refusing to betray Bucky or the principles he holds dear, calls upon his own allies: Sam Wilson, Wanda Maximoff, Clint Barton (Hawkeye), and Scott Lang (Ant-Man), who he recruits from prison. The two factions converge at Leipzig/Halle Airport for an epic showdown.

The airport battle is a spectacular display of superhero prowess and conflicting loyalties. Team Iron Man attempts to contain Team Captain America, leading to various matchups: Spider-Man clashes with Captain America and Ant-Man, Black Widow fights Hawkeye, and Vision faces off against Scarlet Witch. Ant-Man makes a dramatic entrance by growing to a colossal size, providing a distraction for Captain America and Bucky to escape. In the chaos, War Machine is accidentally shot down by a beam from Vision, intended for Falcon, leaving him severely injured and paralyzed from the waist down. Zemo, having accomplished his goal of tearing the Avengers apart, attempts suicide but is stopped and captured by Black Panther, who has chosen justice over vengeance. In the aftermath, Tony Stark is left to grapple with his grief and the paralysis of War Machine. Steve Rogers sends Tony a letter, expressing his regret for the conflict but reaffirming his belief in personal freedom and offering his help if Tony ever needs it. He then breaks his imprisoned teammates out of the Raft. Bucky, fearing his unstable mind, chooses to return to cryostasis in Wakanda, under the care of T'Challa, until a cure can be found. The Avengers, once a united force, are irrevocably broken, with members scattered and their future uncertain.
