Plot:
Carrie White, a sheltered and religiously oppressed teenager, experiences her first period in the school showers, unaware of what it is, leading to public humiliation by her peers. Her abusive, fundamentalist Christian mother, Margaret, further punishes her for what she considers a sinful act. Carrie begins to manifest telekinetic powers, initially subtly, then with increasing strength, often triggered by stress or anger.
Meanwhile, remorseful classmate Sue Snell, feeling guilty for her part in the shower incident, convinces her popular boyfriend Tommy Ross to take Carrie to the senior prom. Despite her mother's fervent disapproval and attempts to prevent her from going, Carrie attends the prom, where she unexpectedly enjoys herself and is even crowned Prom Queen alongside Tommy. However, the event is a setup orchestrated by the vindictive Chris Hargensen and her boyfriend Billy Nolan, who rig a bucket of pig's blood to fall on Carrie. The public humiliation, coupled with Tommy's accidental death from the falling bucket, pushes Carrie past her emotional breaking point, causing her to unleash her full telekinetic fury, trapping and incinerating most of her classmates and teachers in the gymnasium. Carrie then returns home to confront her mother, leading to a final, tragic showdown.
