Summary:

Plot:

In a crime-ridden Johannesburg, the police force utilizes armored scout robots, designed by Tetravaal engineer Deon Wilson, to maintain order. Deon secretly works on true artificial intelligence, believing robots can possess consciousness. When Tetravaal CEO Michelle Bradley orders his experimental AI project scrapped, Deon salvages a damaged scout robot slated for destruction, intending to test his AI on it.

Deon is kidnapped by a desperate gang – Ninja, Yo-Landi, and Amerika – who demand he program a robot to assist them. He installs his AI into the salvaged scout, which Yo-Landi names Chappie. Chappie, with the mind of a child, quickly learns from his surroundings, developing a unique personality influenced by his "parents" (the gang members) and Deon's guidance. Meanwhile, Vincent Moore, a jealous rival engineer at Tetravaal, seeks to discredit Deon's work and deploy his own large, clunky, remote-controlled robot, MOOSE. Vincent sees Chappie as a threat to his project and conspires to destroy him.

Chappie rapidly evolves, learning about life, death, and consciousness, but is also manipulated into assisting the gang with a heist. During the heist, he is severely damaged, and Deon's life is endangered by Vincent's MOOSE robot. Facing imminent destruction and the death of his loved ones, Chappie develops a plan to transfer human consciousness into robot bodies, aiming to achieve immortality for himself and those he cares about. The film culminates in a violent confrontation where Chappie, having uploaded Deon's consciousness into a robot body, then uploads Yo-Landi's consciousness, ensuring their survival beyond their physical forms.
