Phase 1: The Reign of Rajan (The Origin)

The film begins by establishing the 1980s power structure. Rajan is the undisputed don of the area, revered by the people for his justice and protection, and respected even by the police. His closest associates are Guna and Senthil, who serve as his lieutenants. Rajan's primary source of power comes from controlling the stevedoring contracts at the harbour and managing the local populace, often acting as a benevolent dictator.

Rajan is characterized by his moral code: he uses violence only when necessary and refuses to involve innocent people or use women in his schemes. However, his strong moral stance creates friction with his inner circle. Guna and Senthil begin to resent Rajan’s reluctance to seize greater wealth and influence, believing he is holding them back. Guna’s wife, Chandra (Andrea Jeremiah), an incredibly sharp and power-hungry woman, actively plants seeds of discontent, urging Guna to overthrow Rajan and take absolute control.

The moment of crisis arrives when Rajan decides to retire and hand over the control of the land and contracts to the community leaders, effectively dissolving his own power structure for the greater good of the people. Guna and Senthil, worried about potential witnesses, frame Anbu and Velu for a petty crime, landing them in a high-security prison.

Phase 3: Prison and Political Apprenticeship

The prison setting acts as a crucible for Anbu. Inside, the rules of Vada Chennai still apply. The prison population is divided by the same gang lines that exist outside. Anbu and Velu are assigned to the cell block controlled by Guna’s loyalists, who treat them poorly. Anbu, still clinging to his innocence, clashes with the gang members.

Phase 4: The Game of Betrayal (The Pawn's Revelation)

Upon his release, Anbu is a changed man—no longer the innocent carrom player. He is now a loyal enforcer for Guna, a man capable of strategic violence. He reunites with Padma, who recognizes the dangerous path he is on but stands by him.

The central conflict now escalates between the two successors: Guna and Senthil. Though they share the power Rajan once held, Senthil is more calculating and manipulative, while Guna is more temperamental. Chandra, Guna’s wife, remains the true political mind, playing both sides against each other to secure her position.

Anbu is tasked by Guna with eliminating key members of the rival faction headed by Pazhani, who is gaining influence. Anbu executes these tasks efficiently, rising in stature and becoming the gang’s most valuable asset. However, during one pivotal assassination attempt, Anbu realizes the truth: he has been used as a pawn in a larger, deadlier game of chess. Chandra, who had orchestrated Rajan’s murder years earlier, is now working with Senthil to eliminate Guna, and Anbu is merely a convenient tool to be disposed of once Guna is isolated.

Phase 5: The Calculated Coup

Anbu, realizing that his life is forfeit whether he obeys or rebels, makes a final, pragmatic decision: to break the cycle of violence by becoming the one who controls it. He understands that the only way to protect Padma and ensure the safety of his community is to eliminate the source of the conflict—the corrupt power structure built by Guna and Senthil.

He cleverly engineers a situation that sets Guna and Senthil against each other. Anbu's final, pivotal act involves turning Chandra’s machinations against her and Senthil. He uses Rajan's old, loyal associates, who still respected the former don, to help him orchestrate his calculated coup.

The film ends with Anbu emerging from the bloody confrontation not as a victorious hero, but as the new, reluctant power broker.
