De De Pyaar De 2 (2025)
Summary
De De Pyaar De 2 is a 2025 Hindi-language romantic comedy and the sequel to the 2019 hit De De Pyaar De. The film continues the unconventional love story of Ashish Mehra and Ayesha Khurana, who face a new and tougher challenge: gaining the acceptance of Ayesha's family. The central conflict arises when Ashish, now 52, meets Ayesha's seemingly "modern" and liberal parents, Rakesh and Anju Khurana, only to find that accepting a partner nearly their own age for their 28-year-old daughter is a test of their true progressive values. The film blends humor, family drama, and romance, with a new dynamic introduced by the arrival of R. Madhavan as Ayesha's protective father.
Plot
The narrative picks up six years after the events of the first film, with Ashish (Ajay Devgn) and Ayesha (Rakul Preet Singh) still happily together. The next step in their relationship is for Ayesha to introduce Ashish to her Punjabi family in Chandigarh.
Ayesha flies home, where she and Ashish plan to reveal their age-gap relationship gradually to her father, Rakesh "Rajji" Khurana (R. Madhavan), and mother, Anju (Gautami Kapoor), who pride themselves on being educated, progressive, and open-minded.
However, the truth is revealed sooner than expected. When Ashish arrives, the Khurana family's liberal facade quickly crumbles. Rakesh, Ayesha's father, finds himself in deep denial and begins using various comical and dramatic tactics to protect his daughter and prevent the marriage. He sees Ashish as an intruder and a threat, leading to a tense, humorous, and emotional confrontation between the two male leads, Rajji and Ashish.
The film focuses on Ashish's attempts to win over his prospective in-laws, while also dealing with the presence of Aditya (Meezaan Jafri), Ayesha's childhood friend and a potential new distraction. The plot explores themes of generational clashes, the true meaning of modern parenting, and whether love can truly conquer deeply ingrained societal perceptions about age. The climax involves Ashish securing his relationship by proving his sincerity and winning the acceptance of Ayesha's family.
