DOCTOR STRANGE (2016)
Summary:
Doctor Strange introduces audiences to the arrogant but brilliant neurosurgeon Dr. Stephen Strange, whose life is irrevocably altered after a devastating car accident robs him of the use of his hands. Desperate for a cure conventional medicine cannot provide, Strange embarks on a journey that leads him to Kamar-Taj, a hidden enclave in Nepal, where he discovers a secret world of mystic arts and alternate dimensions. Under the tutelage of the Ancient One, Strange reluctantly begins to shed his scientific skepticism and embrace a new reality, transforming from a master surgeon into a powerful sorcerer.
The film chronicles Strange's rapid ascent through the ranks of mystic practitioners as he learns to harness magical energies, manipulate time, and traverse the multiverse. He is soon drawn into a conflict against Kaecilius, a rogue sorcerer who seeks to merge Earth with the Dark Dimension, a realm of eternal suffering ruled by the immensely powerful entity Dormammu. Strange must confront his own ego and limitations, ultimately choosing to sacrifice his personal safety to protect Earth from a cataclysmic interdimensional threat, thereby assuming his destined role as the Sorcerer Supreme.

Plot:
Dr. Stephen Strange is an acclaimed, arrogant, and self-centered neurosurgeon whose unparalleled skill is matched only by his dismissive attitude towards colleagues and patients. His life of luxury and professional dominance is shattered when, while speeding and distracted by a phone call, he crashes his Lamborghini, severely damaging the nerves in his hands. Multiple surgeries and experimental procedures fail to restore the fine motor control essential for his career, leaving him financially ruined and emotionally distraught. He pushes away his only remaining connection, fellow surgeon and former lover Dr. Christine Palmer, in his despair.
Desperate for a cure, Strange hears a rumor about Jonathan Pangborn, a paraplegic who mysteriously regained the use of his legs. Pangborn directs Strange to Kamar-Taj in Kathmandu, Nepal. Arriving there, Strange is initially met with skepticism and ridicule by Karl Mordo, a disciple of the Ancient One, the mystic leader of Kamar-Taj. Strange's scientific rationalism clashes fiercely with the Ancient One's teachings, which involve tapping into mystical energies and traversing parallel dimensions. Despite his initial disbelief, a demonstration of the Ancient One pushing his astral form out of his body and sending him on a mind-bending journey through the multiverse convinces Strange that there is more to reality than he understood.
Humbled, Strange pleads for training, and the Ancient One reluctantly agrees, sensing his potential but also his deep-seated arrogance. Under the guidance of Mordo and the stern librarian Wong, Strange begins his rigorous study of the mystic arts. He learns to conjure energy constructs, create portals with Sling Rings, and harness various forms of magic. His photographic memory and innate intelligence allow him to progress at an astonishing rate, quickly mastering spells that take others years to learn. However, his rebellious nature and tendency to bend rules often put him at odds with his mentors. He secretly reads forbidden texts, including those detailing the manipulation of time, leading him to discover the Eye of Agamotto, an ancient relic he later learns houses an Infinity Stone.
Meanwhile, a former student of the Ancient One, Kaecilius, and his zealot followers, steal pages from a forbidden ritual book, seeking to summon the extra-dimensional entity Dormammu from the Dark Dimension. Kaecilius believes that merging Earth with the Dark Dimension will grant eternal life and peace, freeing humanity from suffering and the constraints of time. The Ancient One reveals that she has been drawing power from the Dark Dimension herself to prolong her life and protect Earth, a secret she kept from her disciples, including Mordo, who believes in strict adherence to the natural order.
Kaecilius and his zealots launch coordinated attacks on the three Sanctums – mystical fortresses located in New York City, London, and Hong Kong – which protect Earth from interdimensional threats. Strange, still early in his training, is unexpectedly thrust into battle when the New York Sanctum is attacked. He barely manages to defend it, receiving aid from the sentient Cloak of Levitation, which chooses him as its wearer. During the fight, he is gravely wounded and taken to Christine Palmer for emergency surgery, where he uses his astral form to guide her through the procedure while simultaneously fighting off one of Kaecilius's astral zealots.
Following the attack, Strange, Mordo, and the Ancient One confront Kaecilius. In the ensuing battle in the mirror dimension, the Ancient One is mortally wounded. Before her death, she imparts a final lesson to Strange, explaining that sometimes one must break the rules to uphold the greater good, and revealing her own secret use of Dark Dimension energy. Her death deeply affects Mordo, who becomes disillusioned by the hypocrisy he perceives in the Ancient One's actions and Strange's willingness to manipulate time with the Eye of Agamotto.
With the Ancient One gone, Strange and Mordo travel to Hong Kong, only to find the Sanctum destroyed and the Dark Dimension beginning to engulf Earth. Wong, who survived the London Sanctum's destruction, is there attempting to fight the encroaching darkness. Recognizing that he cannot defeat Dormammu through conventional combat, Strange devises a daring and unprecedented plan. He uses the Eye of Agamotto to reverse time in Hong Kong, saving Wong and the city, but then enters the Dark Dimension to confront Dormammu directly. Strange traps himself and Dormammu in an infinite time loop, repeatedly dying and resurrecting, each time declaring, "Dormammu, I've come to bargain."
Dormammu, an entity beyond time, is driven mad by the endless repetition and the inability to escape the loop. Faced with eternal torment, Dormammu finally agrees to Strange's terms: he must withdraw from Earth and take Kaecilius and his zealots with him. Dormammu pulls his followers into the Dark Dimension, fulfilling the bargain. Strange then releases the time loop, and the Hong Kong Sanctum is restored, its portals sealed. Mordo, however, is disgusted by Strange's manipulation of natural laws and departs, declaring that the true problem with Earth is "too many sorcerers." Strange accepts his new role as the protector of Earth from mystical threats, returning the Eye of Agamotto to its pedestal. In a mid-credits scene, Strange is visited by Thor, seeking help to find Odin, while a post-credits scene shows Mordo confronting Pangborn, stealing his magical energy, and stating that Earth has "too many sorcerers."
