ELYSIUM (2013)

Summary:

In the year 2154, two classes of people exist: the very wealthy, who live on a pristine artificial space habitat called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. While the citizens of Elysium enjoy advanced medical technology that can cure any disease, those on Earth suffer from poverty, pollution, and lack of healthcare, yearning for a chance to reach the luxurious station.

The film follows Max Da Costa, an ex-convict living in the slums of Los Angeles, who is exposed to a lethal dose of radiation during a factory accident. With only five days to live, his only hope for survival is to reach Elysium's medical facilities. He embarks on a dangerous mission that could not only save his life but also bring equality to the two disparate worlds, putting him in direct conflict with Elysium's ruthless Secretary of Defense, Jessica Delacourt, and her operative Kruger.

Plot:

Max Da Costa, a factory worker in a dystopian Los Angeles, is accidentally exposed to a fatal amount of radiation. Desperate to survive, he seeks help from Spider, an underground hacker who arranges for Max to be fitted with an advanced exoskeleton to enhance his strength for a mission: to steal valuable data from the mind of an Elysian industrialist, John Carlyle. This data, if obtained, could grant Max passage to Elysium and access to its life-saving medical bay.

The mission goes awry when Secretary Delacourt dispatches her psychopathic black-ops agent, Kruger, to intercept Max. Max manages to download the data, which turns out to be a reboot program for Elysium's entire system, capable of granting citizenship to everyone on Earth. Pursued by Kruger and Delacourt's forces, Max, along with his childhood friend Frey and her dying daughter Matilda, races against time to reach Elysium. In a climactic confrontation, Max sacrifices himself by uploading the new citizenship program, effectively making all Earth residents citizens of Elysium and triggering the deployment of medical droids to Earth, thus ending the severe class division.
