Summary:
Sundarapandian, a benevolent but mischievous village youth, is known for going to great lengths for his friends. His life takes a dramatic turn when he attempts to help a friend confess his love to a girl, only to discover she's his own former crush. This rekindled romance inadvertently sparks a series of betrayals, escalating conflicts, and a shocking murder, forcing Sundarapandian to confront the true meaning of friendship and loyalty.
Detailed Plot (Movie Story):
The story is set in a rural backdrop in Kandamanoor, near Theni. Sundarapandian (M. Sasikumar) is the only son of Raghupathi Thevar (Aadukalam Naren), a respected landlord and village head. Sundarapandian is a lively, happy-go-lucky young man who has just finished college and spends his time with his close circle of friends, most notably Murugesan (Soori) and Arivazhagan "Arivu" (Inigo Prabhakaran). He is known for his protective nature towards the village's women and children, but also for his playful mischief and unwavering loyalty to his friends, often going out of his way to help them.
Arivu, who has struggled with his board exams, is now in his final year of college and falls in love with Archana (Lakshmi Menon), a girl from a nearby village who commutes daily on the bus from Madurai to Theni. Arivu is too timid to express his feelings directly and seeks Sundarapandian and Murugesan's help in confessing his love. Sundarapandian, Murugesan, and Arivu begin to commute on the same bus as Archana, trying to orchestrate moments for Arivu to confess.
During this time, another young man named Bhuvaneshwaran "Bhuvanesh" (Appukutty), who also travels on the same bus, attempts to propose to Archana, leading to a confrontation with Arivu. Sundarapandian, in a seemingly fair move, gives Bhuvanesh a 31-day challenge to win Archana's heart, after which Arivu will get his chance if Bhuvanesh fails. Bhuvanesh fails in his attempts.
However, a surprising twist emerges: it's revealed that Sundarapandian himself had proposed to Archana three years prior, during his college days, but she had rejected him. Encouraged by Arivu, who is unaware of this past, Sundarapandian decides to propose to Archana again, ostensibly on behalf of Arivu. But to everyone's astonishment, Archana unexpectedly proposes to Sundarapandian instead, revealing that she has had feelings for him all along and had only rejected him before due to her young age. Arivu, though disappointed, steps aside, and Sundarapandian accepts Archana's proposal.
Archana's parents, Pandi Thevar (Thennavan) and his wife (Tulasi), however, want her to marry their relative, Jegan (Vijay Sethupathi), despite Archana's disinterest in him. Archana asks Sundarapandian to give her some space during her crucial exams.
Bhuvanesh, still nursing a grudge, takes advantage of this situation and begins to harass Archana on the bus. Sundarapandian intervenes, but Bhuvanesh continues to cause trouble. In a violent confrontation during a bus journey, Bhuvanesh is pushed out of the moving bus and dies. Sundarapandian is arrested, but he is released on bail as it is deemed an accident. Sundarapandian's father, Raghupathi, tries to mediate and even takes care of Bhuvanesh's grieving family, attempting to resolve the animosity.
Despite this, Bhuvanesh's friends vow to take revenge on Sundarapandian. Simultaneously, an individual named Paranjothi (Soundararaja), who had been secretly jealous and angry towards Sundarapandian, decides to capitalize on the situation. Raghupathi convinces Archana's father, Pandi, to accept his marriage proposal between Archana and Sundarapandian. Jegan, Archana's suitor, is furious about the upcoming wedding. He discovers that Sundarapandian was his old college friend and decides to kill him, enlisting Paranjothi's help.
Paranjothi tricks Sundarapandian into meeting Jegan, claiming that Jegan has become a drunkard and needs help. Sundarapandian, always ready to help a friend, decides to meet Jegan, unaware of the planned ambush. Arivu, still trusting Sundarapandian, accompanies him to the meeting, oblivious to the danger.
Sundarapandian meets Jegan on the outskirts of town and tries to reason with him. However, Jegan and Paranjothi attack Sundarapandian. In a shocking turn1 of events, Arivu stabs Sundarapandian, revealing his hidden vengeance, fueled by his initial disappointment and perhaps manipulation by Paranjothi.
Sundarapandian, severely injured, fights back, confronting Jegan, Arivu, and Paranjothi. In a dramatic revelation, he exposes Jegan's manipulative attempts to force Archana into marriage despite knowing her true feelings. He also unmasks Paranjothi's deep-seated betrayal, revealing that Paranjothi had sent thugs to kill him earlier. The most impactful revelation is that Arivu was the one who actually pushed Bhuvanesh out of the bus, and Sundarapandian had taken the blame to protect his friend, Arivu.
Devastated by these betrayals, Sundarapandian manages to escape the attack. Later, Sundarapandian and Archana tie the knot. The film concludes with Sundarapandian choosing to keep the ultimate betrayal by his closest friends a secret from the world, opting instead to quietly end their friendships, demonstrating his enduring nobility and selflessness even in the face of profound hurt.
