Fool's Gold (2008)
Concise Summary:
Fool's Gold is a romantic action-comedy film that reunites Ben "Finn" Finnegan, a laid-back, perpetually broke treasure hunter, with his soon-to-be ex-wife, Tess Finnegan, just as she is divorcing him over his reckless ways. When Finn discovers a crucial new clue to the legendary "Queen's Dowry", a massive Spanish treasure lost in the Caribbean in 1715, he convinces Tess's billionaire employer, Nigel Honeycutt, to fund one last search. The estranged couple are forced to work together, rekindling their passion and old partnership, all while evading a ruthless rival treasure hunter and the rap mogul to whom Finn owes a substantial debt.
Detailed Plot (Movie Story):
Ben "Finn" Finnegan (Matthew McConaughey) is a charming, irresponsible, and deeply-in-debt treasure hunter obsessed with finding the Queen's Dowry, a vast treasure of 40 chests lost in the 18th century. His obsession finally leads his wife, Tess Finnegan (Kate Hudson), to divorce him.
After his salvage boat explodes, Finn misses his final divorce hearing but is elated because the explosion uncovered a fragment of a dish that points to the Queen's Dowry. Meanwhile, Tess is working as a steward on the mega-yacht Precious Gem, owned by billionaire Nigel Honeycutt (Donald Sutherland). Finn manages to get himself on board, much to Tess's frustration, by dramatically saving the hat of Nigel's celebrity-obsessed daughter, Gemma (Alexis Dziena).
Finn convinces Nigel and Gemma to fund his continued search. Tess reluctantly joins the expedition, and their old chemistry, both in treasure hunting and romance, immediately reignites. They follow the clues to an old Spanish diary and map, which confirm the treasure's location.
However, Finn is being pursued by a dangerous local gangster and rap mogul named "Bigg Bunny" (Kevin Hart), to whom he owes money. Bigg Bunny is also after the Queen's Dowry. They are also competing with Finn's former mentor, Moe Fitch (Ray Winstone), who is independently searching for the same treasure.
The search leads to a thrilling underwater sequence and a chase involving Bigg Bunny's gang, which results in Tess being kidnapped. Finn, with the help of Nigel, Gemma, and Moe Fitch (who eventually teams up with them), orchestrates a dangerous rescue. In the climax, Tess manages to save Finn and kick Bigg Bunny out of a seaplane to his death.
In the end, Finn and Tess successfully find the enormous treasure. They use their newfound fortune to open the Fitch-Finnegan Maritime Museum, a tribute to their discovery. Finn and Tess are happily remarried, and the final scene reveals that Tess is pregnant.
