Plot:

Professor Parker Wilson discovers an abandoned Akita puppy at his local train station and, despite his wife Cate's initial reluctance, decides to take him in. Parker names the dog Hachi, after the Japanese character on his collar meaning 'eight'. Hachi quickly becomes an integral part of the family, and a unique bond forms between the professor and his canine companion. Hachi develops a routine of accompanying Parker to the train station every morning and returning to greet him precisely at 5 PM when his train arrives.

This beautiful daily ritual continues for several years until one day, Parker tragically suffers a fatal cerebral hemorrhage during a lecture and does not return. Unaware of his master's passing, Hachi continues to go to the train station every single day, waiting patiently at the same spot at 5 PM for Parker's return. Despite attempts by Parker's family to rehome him, Hachi's unwavering loyalty keeps him returning to the station for nearly a decade, becoming a beloved local figure and a symbol of profound devotion, until he eventually passes away at the very spot where he always waited.
