Summary:

Plot:

Three years after a genetically re-engineered measles virus, intended to cure cancer, mutates into a lethal airborne strain, Dr. Robert Neville is the sole human survivor in New York City. The virus, known as the "K-virus," killed 90% of the world's population, while the remaining 9% mutated into feral, vampiric creatures called Darkseekers, who are extremely aggressive and vulnerable to sunlight. Neville, a former U.S. Army virologist, is immune to the virus and lives a solitary existence with his dog, Sam, in a fortified Washington Square Park brownstone.

Neville spends his days scavenging for supplies, hunting deer in the overgrown city, maintaining his home, and broadcasting daily radio messages in the hope of finding other survivors. He also conducts experiments on infected rats and captured Darkseekers in his basement laboratory, desperately trying to synthesize a cure from his own immune blood. His nights are a constant battle against loneliness and the terrifying sounds of the Darkseekers attempting to breach his defenses. After a series of dangerous encounters and a heartbreaking loss, Neville's hope wanes, pushing him to the brink of despair.

His routine is shattered when he encounters Anna and a young boy named Ethan, who have traveled from Maryland after hearing his radio broadcasts. They believe there's a safe haven in Vermont. The Darkseekers, having learned to set traps, launch a coordinated attack on Neville's home. During the siege, Neville discovers his latest serum is effective. He sacrifices himself to protect Anna and Ethan, allowing them to escape with the cure, which they deliver to a fortified survivors' colony in Vermont, thus offering humanity a new chance.
