Summary:

Plot:

Picking up shortly after the Erudite attack on Abnegation, Tris, Four, Caleb, and Peter seek refuge with the Amity faction. Meanwhile, Jeanine Matthews searches for a mysterious box believed to contain a message from the city's Founders, which she thinks can only be opened by a powerful Divergent who can pass five complex simulations, one for each faction. Tris, being the most potent Divergent, becomes her primary target.

As they evade Jeanine's forces, Tris and Four form uneasy alliances, first with the Factionless led by Four's mother, Evelyn, and later with the Candor faction. Tris struggles with the trauma of her parents' deaths and the guilt of killing Will, experiencing hallucinations and internal conflict. She eventually surrenders herself to Jeanine to prevent further bloodshed, agreeing to attempt opening the box. Tris endures the brutal simulations, confronting her deepest fears and weaknesses, ultimately succeeding.

The box reveals a message from the Founders, explaining that the walled city was an experiment designed to produce Divergents, and that once enough Divergents appeared, the wall was to be opened to the outside world. This revelation shatters Jeanine's ideology and power. Jeanine is subsequently arrested and executed by Evelyn. The film concludes with the Factionless and former members of other factions preparing to open the wall and discover what lies beyond.
