Summary:

Dr. Danny Maccabee, a successful plastic surgeon, maintains a facade of an unhappy marriage to avoid serious commitment with women. When he meets the beautiful and much younger Palmer, he quickly falls for her. However, after Palmer discovers his "wedding ring," Danny fabricates an elaborate story about getting a divorce, enlisting his loyal and competent office manager, Katherine Murphy, to pose as his soon-to-be ex-wife.

This initial deception rapidly spirals out of control, involving Katherine's children, Maggie and Michael, and leading to an unexpected group vacation to Hawaii. Plot:

Danny Maccabee, a plastic surgeon, has perfected a technique for avoiding commitment: he wears a fake wedding ring and invents a story about an abusive marriage to gain sympathy and avoid long-term relationships. One night, after a casual encounter, he meets Palmer, a much younger woman he genuinely connects with. When Palmer discovers his "wedding ring," Danny quickly invents a story about an impending divorce from a cruel wife named Devlin. Palmer, however, insists on meeting his "ex-wife" to ensure he's truly available.

Desperate, Danny convinces his loyal office manager, Katherine Murphy, a single mother, to pose as Devlin. The charade quickly escalates when Katherine's children, Maggie and Michael, get involved, demanding to join their "father" on a trip to Hawaii to ensure he's okay. Palmer, feeling sympathetic, invites them all, along with Katherine's overly competitive "cousin" Eddie (who is actually Danny's friend). In Hawaii, the elaborate web of lies unravels amidst comedic misunderstandings, new romantic interests for Katherine, and the growing realization that Danny and Katherine might have genuine feelings for each other, forcing Danny to choose between his carefully constructed lies and the possibility of real love.
