Kallu confessed that he had stolen the cross years ago, hidden it under the mango tree, and then fled the village. He had returned after serving his time in jail, only to find the tree gone and a house built in its place. He had set the fire to retrieve his stolen treasure. In the ensuing chaos, the other man ran off with the cross. Johnny and Kallu gave chase and caught him. The man, cornered, confessed that he, not Kallu, was the one who had committed the rape and murder, framing Kallu to escape justice. In a fit of rage, Kallu killed the man.
During the struggle, Johnny was injured, and Kallu, in turn, fell into the well. Johnny, remembering the help Kallu had given him earlier, rescued him. As Kallu walked away with the cross, Johnny reminded him of the love and acceptance he had received from their family. Kallu, his conscience pricked, abandoned the cross. Johnny, despite the villagers' suspicion, returned the cross to the church. Just as he was being accused of theft, Kallu appeared, revealing the body of the real thief. The villagers finally accepted Johnny's innocence. As per a previous agreement, Johnny, having recovered the cross, was now free to marry Maria. He turned to Kallu, acknowledging him as a permanent member of their family, despite everything that had happened.
