Summary:
Khel Power Ka (originally Kathakali) is a fast-paced action thriller centered on Amudhavel (Vishal), an NRI who returns home to Cuddalore, India, after six years abroad to marry his longtime girlfriend, Meenu Kutty (Catherine Tresa). His return is quickly overshadowed when the local gangster, Thamba (Madhusudhan Rao), who holds a deep-seated grudge against Amudhavel's family, is murdered. Amudhavel is immediately framed as the prime suspect. The rest of the film follows Amudhavel's desperate and tense run from the police, led by a relentless and merciless inspector, as he races against time to uncover the true killer and clear his name before his wedding day. The title, Kathakali, is a Tamil colloquial term meaning "ready for the game" or "ready for the conflict."
Plot:
Amudhavel returns home to Cuddalore for his wedding, but a past conflict with the local don, Thamba, forces him to invite the gangster to the ceremony. Just as Amudhavel is in Chennai for wedding shopping, Thamba is murdered. Due to their history, Amudhavel becomes the immediate and only suspect.
The local police, under the iron fist of Inspector Saravana Vadivel, begin a manhunt, forcing Amudhavel and his family into hiding. Amudhavel realizes he cannot prove his innocence through legal means and decides to investigate the murder himself. While evading capture, he pieces together clues that suggest the conspiracy is far deeper than a simple revenge killing. He discovers that the person tasked with catching the killer—Inspector Vadivel—might actually be the one who orchestrated Thamba's death out of personal vendetta, later framing Amudhavel.
The film culminates in Amudhavel confronting the true conspirators, including Vadivel and Thamba's own greedy relatives. In a climactic twist, a key witness emerges to reveal the full truth, leading to the dramatic downfall of those responsible and Amudhavel finally clearing his name.
