Lavender (2016)

Summary:

Lavender is a 2016 psychological thriller film directed by Ed Gass-Donnelly and starring Abbie Cornish in the lead role. The film follows a woman suffering from amnesia who begins experiencing disturbing visions connected to her forgotten past. Blending mystery, psychological tension, and emotional drama, Lavender explores themes of memory, trauma, identity, and the long-lasting effects of childhood violence. The movie is known for its haunting atmosphere, slow-burning suspense, and strong central performance.

Plot:

Lavender centers on Jane, a professional photographer who has been living with partial amnesia since surviving a traumatic car accident many years earlier. Raised by her uncle after the accident, Jane has no memory of her early childhood or her biological family. Though she appears to live a normal life, she is haunted by recurring nightmares and unsettling visions that she cannot explain.

Jane’s life takes a disturbing turn when she begins photographing abandoned houses and rural landscapes. While reviewing her photographs, she notices strange figures and unsettling details that she does not remember capturing. These images trigger intense visions of a violent crime involving a family massacre. Confused and frightened, Jane begins questioning whether these visions are hallucinations or suppressed memories trying to resurface.

As her mental state deteriorates, Jane starts investigating her past. She discovers that the locations in her photographs are connected to her childhood and that her family was brutally murdered when she was young. The accident that caused her amnesia was not random — it was a consequence of the trauma she endured.

With the help of a man who claims to know the truth about her past, Jane uncovers shocking revelations about the murders and her role as the sole survivor. As the memories return, she is forced to confront the horrifying reality she has been unconsciously trying to escape for years.

The film builds toward a tense psychological climax where Jane must face her repressed memories and accept the truth about her identity. Lavender concludes with an emotional resolution, emphasizing how trauma shapes the human mind and how confronting the past is often the only path to healing.
