LIE (2017)
Summary:
"LIE" is a high-stakes action thriller that stands for "Love, Intelligence, Enmity." The film follows a carefree young man, Sathyam, who travels to Las Vegas with his new love interest, Chaitra. Their journey becomes a cat-and-mouse game when Sathyam is unwittingly embroiled in a decades-long chase between the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and a master-of-disguise criminal named Padmanabham. As the lines between love and deception blur, Sathyam must use his intelligence and wit to outsmart both the police and the criminal mastermind to protect himself and the woman he loves.
Detailed Plot (Movie Story):
The film introduces A. Sathyam (Nithiin), a seemingly jobless and happy-go-lucky young man from a middle-class family. He is a compulsive liar, a trait that he uses to get himself out of various sticky situations. He agrees to go on a trip to Las Vegas with a stranger, Chaitra (Megha Akash), a young woman who is looking to spend her honeymoon money after her marriage gets called off. They agree to a pact to only tell lies to each other, and their romance blossoms amidst these beautiful lies.
Simultaneously, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) is on a mission to capture Padmanabham (Arjun Sarja), a brilliant and elusive criminal who is a master of disguise and a renowned illusionist. Padmanabham has been evading capture for 19 years, and the NIA, led by officer Bharadwaj (Ravi Kishan), has no idea what he looks like. The only lead they have is a custom-made suit that Padmanabham has ordered. The NIA sends two agents, Aadi (Sriram) and his partner, to Las Vegas to retrieve the suit and capture Padmanabham.
The plot thickens when Sathyam and Chaitra arrive in Las Vegas. By a strange twist of fate, Sathyam's bag gets swapped with the bag containing Padmanabham's suit, putting him at the center of the chase. Padmanabham realizes that his suit has fallen into the hands of an unknown person and begins to pursue Sathyam, all while evading the NIA agents.
The film turns into a thrilling cat-and-mouse game, with three parties—Sathyam, the NIA, and Padmanabham—all trying to outwit one another. Sathyam, initially a simple guy on vacation, finds himself having to use his natural wit and talent for lying to survive. He slowly begins to piece together the puzzle and realizes the danger he is in.
The second half of the film reveals several major twists. It is revealed that Sathyam's father was an innocent man who was mistakenly killed by NIA officer Bharadwaj during a chase for Padmanabham. Sathyam has been plotting his revenge against both Bharadwaj and Padmanabham for years, and his seemingly aimless life was all part of a meticulous plan. He is not a simple liar, but an incredibly intelligent individual who is a step ahead of everyone. He had infiltrated the NIA's operations and manipulated the events leading up to the Las Vegas trip.
The climax is a high-stakes showdown where Sathyam reveals his true identity and his motive for revenge. He confronts both Bharadwaj and Padmanabham, not only to get justice for his father but also to protect Chaitra, who has come to love him for his lies. The film ends with a thrilling final battle where Sathyam, using his intelligence and planning, defeats Padmanabham, bringing an end to his long reign of crime.
