Plot:

The film opens with a montage of real-life Navy SEAL training, establishing the rigorous demands of their profession. It then transitions to Afghanistan in 2005, where a four-man SEAL team, consisting of Marcus Luttrell, Michael P. Murphy, Danny Dietz, and Matthew Axelson, is deployed on Operation Red Wings. Their mission is to locate and neutralize high-ranking Taliban leader Ahmad Shah. After infiltrating their position, they discover Shah and his forces, but their position is compromised when they encounter local goat herders.

Faced with a moral dilemma—kill the unarmed civilians or release them, knowing they will alert the Taliban—the team decides to release them. As anticipated, the herders betray them, leading to a massive Taliban ambush. What follows is a brutal and extended firefight as the SEALs, outmanned and outgunned, fight valiantly for their lives, sustaining severe injuries. A quick reaction force helicopter sent to extract them is shot down, resulting in further devastating casualties. Luttrell, the sole survivor of his team, is eventually found and aided by local Pashtun villagers who adhere to the Pashtunwali code of honor, protecting him from the pursuing Taliban, before he is ultimately rescued by U.S. forces.
