Summary:

Mechanic Rocky is a 2024 Indian Telugu-language action comedy thriller film written and directed by Ravi Teja Mullapudi in his directorial debut, and produced by Ram Talluri under the premier production banner SRT Entertainments. Starring "Mass Ka Das" Vishwak Sen in an entertaining dual role as the street-smart protagonist Nagumomu Rakesh alias "Rocky" and his flamboyant factionist grandfather Nagireddeppa, the film co-stars Shraddha Srinath and Meenakshi Chaudhary as the female leads alongside Naresh, Sunil, Harsha Vardhan, Raghu Ram, Vishwadev Rachakonda, Harsha Chemudu, and Hyper Aadi. The narrative begins as an energetic, lighthearted commercial masala following a local auto mechanic who doubles as a driving instructor, before executing a dramatic tonal shift into a high-stakes cybercrime investigation and revenge con-caper. Exposing the sinister world of call-center phishing rings, fake bank extortion schemes, and digital loan fraud that prey upon middle-class vulnerabilities, Mechanic Rocky blends laugh-out-loud situational humor with sharp counter-con warfare. Featuring a musical score by Jakes Bejoy, vibrant visuals by Manojh Reddy Katasani, and editing by Anwar Ali, the film delivers a multi-layered story of familial honor and contemporary vigilante justice. Plot:

The story of Mechanic Rocky opens on a somber, tragic note during a torrential downpour. A distraught young woman arrives home in tears, entering into a bitter, emotional argument with her brother, Sekhar, whom she scolds for being irresponsible, financially reckless, and wasting his life away. Overwhelmed by shame and unable to articulate the suffocating burden he has been silently carrying, Sekhar takes the extreme step of ending his life by suicide later that night. His sister is left shattered by grief and an agonizing sense of guilt, unaware of the insidious trap that drove her brother to make that fateful choice.

The scene transitions to the lively lanes of Hyderabad, introducing Nagumomu Rakesh, popularly known across the neighborhood as "Rocky." Rocky is an easygoing, sharp-witted young man who runs a modest automobile garage alongside his loving, quirky father, Nagumomu Ramakrishna, an experienced veteran mechanic. To make additional money on the side, Rocky doubles as a driving instructor, teaching local residents the basics of handling a steering wheel. Rocky's domestic life is defined by his playful banter with his father and colorful tales of his ancestry: his late grandfather, Nagireddeppa, was a ferocious yet comically eccentric Rayalaseema faction leader who famously earned the lifelong gratitude of his ally Reddappa by naming his son. During a violent skirmish with rival factionists, Nagireddeppa had his left hand severed before passing away, leaving behind a grandson who grew up to be his spitting image in both looks and temperament.

Rocky’s daily routine takes an exciting turn when he crosses paths with Maya, who introduces herself as an employee at the National Informatics Centre (NIC) looking for driving lessons. Rocky agrees to teach her, and their training sessions quickly turn into an easy friendship. Curious about Rocky's background, Maya inquires into his past, prompting Rocky to recount his college years. During his civil engineering studies, Rocky had fallen head over heels for Priya, who happened to be the sister of his close friend Sekhar. Their college romance blossomed through lighthearted banter and stolen moments, but ended abruptly when Rocky stole an upcoming semester exam paper to pass, accidentally causing Sekhar to be falsely implicated and suspended. Years later, Priya re-entered Rocky’s life when she sought out driving lessons to meet the job requirements of her demanding employer. Through a sequence of comical misunderstandings and chaotic road adventures, Priya rekindled her affection for Rocky, forgiving him and restarting their romance. Back in the present, Rocky achieves a personal milestone by purchasing a long-awaited travel package for his father, Ramakrishna, fulfilling his lifelong dream of journeying across India from Kanyakumari to Kashmir. However, Rocky’s happiness is abruptly crushed when news arrives that Ramakrishna has unexpectedly passed away, leaving Rocky heartbroken.

Compounding Rocky's misery, a ruthless regional land grabber and underworld figure, Ranki Reddy, decides to demolish Rocky's garage to pave the way for a massive commercial shopping mall project. Ranki Reddy dispatches his right-hand enforcer, Upma, along with a squad of goons to forcefully seize the property. When Rocky refuses to surrender his father’s legacy and physically thrashes the henchmen, an enraged Ranki Reddy arrives in person, threatening to bring bulldozers down on the workshop unless Rocky can produce an exorbitant sum of ₹2 crore within a strict deadline. Seeing Rocky’s desperation, Maya steps forward as a compassionate savior, offering to arrange financial assistance through her connections, introducing Rocky to her influential manager, Vivek.

As Vivek steps in to broker the funds, the situation spirals into chaos when a suspended, aggressive police officer named R. Kranthi raids the venue, exposing Vivek's financial dealings as unlawful and taking him into custody. In a frantic attempt to rescue Vivek and secure the loan, Rocky and Maya track Kranthi to an abandoned warehouse. Desperate to prevent a formal police case, Maya bribes Kranthi with ₹10 lakh in cash, but the corrupt cop demands an additional ₹40 lakh from Rocky to let Vivek walk free. Rocky scrambles across the city to arrange the balance, feeling indebted to Maya for putting herself in danger for his sake.

However, as Rocky returns to finalize legal documents for Priya, the entire premise of his reality shatters. Glancing at a formal First Information Report (FIR) that Priya had lodged, Rocky pieces together the missing puzzle: the brother who committed suicide at the beginning of the film was none other than Priya’s brother, Sekhar. Sekhar had harbored a passionate ambition to become a national cricketer and spent his days practicing in the nets. One afternoon, he received a phone call from individuals claiming to represent his bank and sports federation, demanding repeated processing fees and deposits to secure his team selection. Blinded by hope, Sekhar liquidated all his family’s savings and assets to transfer the money, only to realize he had been thoroughly duped by an untraceable online phishing syndicate. Drowning in debt and unable to bear his sister's accusations of laziness, a devastated Sekhar had ended his life. When Priya approached local law enforcement, the police dismissed the case, citing that the scammers operated from untraceable dummy IP addresses and false identities.

The film unleashes its central, explosive twist: Maya is not an innocent government employee, Vivek is not a corporate manager, and Kranthi is not a rogue police officer. Their real identities are Apsara, Natraj, and Chanti—a ruthless, highly coordinated cybercrime syndicate that systematically stalks, manipulates, and extorts middle-class families through social engineering, fake loan guarantees, and staged police crackdowns. They had deliberately engineered the crisis around Rocky to bleed his assets dry.

Rather than succumbing to blind fury, Rocky chooses cold, calculated retribution. Enlisting the help of his close police officer friend Dhruvan Katakam, Rocky designs an elaborate counter-trap. It is revealed that Rocky had suspected Apsara's suspicious maneuvers from the very day they met, having quietly recognized the deceptive patterns connected to Sekhar’s tragedy. Furthermore, the conflict with Ranki Reddy was an elaborate charade: Ranki Reddy is actually the son of Reddappa whom Rocky’s grandfather Nagireddeppa had once protected, meaning Ranki Reddy was forever indebted to Rocky's lineage and gladly played the role of an antagonistic creditor to deceive the scammers. Even more shocking, Rocky’s father Ramakrishna is alive and well—his "death" was a staged diversion to throw the scammers off their guard and allow Rocky full operational freedom.

In an adrenaline-fueled final act, Rocky lures Apsara, Natraj, and Chanti into their own web of extortion. Using digital tracing, audio recordings, and tactical misdirection, Rocky cuts off their escape routes and exposes their multi-crore illicit operations to the public and the cybercrime division. In a visceral, high-impact physical showdown, Rocky confronts Chanti in a brutal one-on-one duel, dismantling the syndicate’s muscle and handing them over to Dhruvan’s police team. The film concludes on an uplifting, satisfying note as Sekhar's name is cleared, Priya and her family find long-awaited closure, and Rocky proudly restores his family's garage, proving that no digital con can outsmart the sharp wits and unwavering heart of a true mechanic.
