Summary:

"Mr. & Mrs. 420" is a hilarious Punjabi comedy about four friends – Deputy, Jass, Palli, and Babbu – who move to the city for a better future. The film centers around four friends and their individual struggles and aspirations:

1. Deputy (Binnu Dhillon): An aspiring actor who dreams of becoming a star like Dharmendra but is currently stuck playing minor roles like Surpanakha in local Ramlilas due to lack of opportunities.

2. Jass (Jassi Gill): Unemployed and deeply in love with a girl who will only agree to marry him if he finds a stable job.

3. Palli (Yuvraj Hans): The more grounded of the group, who convinces Deputy and Jass to move to a new town with him for a better future and to prove themselves to their families.

4. Babbu (Babbal Rai): Palli's friend who initially helps them find shelter.

The three friends, Deputy, Jass, and Palli, arrive in the city with big dreams but face an immediate challenge: finding a place to stay that fits their limited budget. They soon discover that the only affordable accommodations available are for married couples. This forces them to come up with a ridiculous plan: they decide to pretend that some of them are married to others within the group.

The farce begins when Palli and Jass manage to convince Babbu and Deputy to pose as their wives to secure a flat from a strict landlord, Subedaar Kirpaal Singh Gill (Jaswinder Bhalla). Deputy, with his acting aspirations, embraces his role as "Neeru Paali Chhada" and later "Japji," while Babbu becomes "Pinky Jass Chhada."

The comedy intensifies as they try to maintain their fake identities, constantly fearing exposure, especially when the suspicious landlord is around. Their lives become a tangled mess of lies and comical near-misses.

Further complications arise with the introduction of their actual love interests:

• Palli falls in love with Raano (Swati Kapoor).

• Jass is still pursuing the girl he loves, Jasmeet Gill (Shruti Sodhi), who happens to be the landlord Subedaar Kirpaal Singh Gill's niece, adding another layer of challenge to his deception.

• Deputy's fake "wifely" persona often gets him into hilarious situations with other characters.

The landlord, Subedaar Kirpaal Singh Gill, also has his own comedic subplot, often involving his interactions with the "wives" and other characters. The film is a throwback to classic farcical comedies of the 70s, relying heavily on situational humor, mistaken identities, and the absurdities that arise from the characters' elaborate charade.
