In 1963, in the village of Ambajipeta, an orphan named Kishtayya forms a deep bond with Anji and his mother, who embrace him as part of their family. Tragically, Anji's mother passes away, leading to a crisis when her creditor, Varadaraju, demands repayment by forcing the sale of their house. The local leader, Peddayya, steps in to repay the debt, earning Kishtayya's unwavering loyalty.
Anji encourages Kishtayya to confess his love for Varadaraju's daughter, Varamahalakshmi, affectionately known as "Varalu." On the day Kishtayya plans to propose, he is interrupted when he saves Peddayya from a violent attack. Kishtayya uses Peddayya's revolver to defend him, cementing a strong bond with Peddayya, who begins to treat Kishtayya and Anji as his own. This newfound affection breeds jealousy among Peddayya's children, while Varadaraju sends Varalu away to Madras for her education, separating her from Kishtayya.
By 1988, Kishtayya has remained single, living with Anji, his wife Manga, and their daughter, still cherishing hopes of marrying Varalu, who now manages her father's business. Despite her continued affection for Kishtayya, Varalu refuses his marriage proposal. The story intensifies when Kishtayya saves Bhaskar, a villager under attack by Veerabhadrudu, the neighboring village's leader. Bhaskar's proposed marriage to Kumari is opposed by Veerabhadrudu, creating tension.
Anji learns that Kishtayya and Varalu once shared a relationship opposed by Varadaraju, who preferred an arranged marriage for Varalu. Varalu was forced to leave home after Varadaraju threatened suicide, only to accidentally hang himself. Guilt-ridden, Varalu chooses to remain single despite her love for Kishtayya.
Tensions rise as Veerabhadrudu and Dasu, Peddayya's son recently returned from Dubai after prison, conspire against Kishtayya. Dasu's violent actions against Anji and subsequent attacks during the Bhogi festival escalate the conflict. On Makar Sankranti, Kishtayya vows to ensure a peaceful festival and secure Bhaskar and Kumari's marriage, despite opposition.
Dasu's attack on Anji at a movie theater, resulting in Anji's death, drives Kishtayya into a fury. In a dramatic confrontation, Kishtayya kills Dasu and several of Veerabhadrudu’s men, ultimately rescuing Bhaskar and Kumari. Varalu, determined to be with Kishtayya, arranges bail for him.
The story reaches its climax when Kishtayya, seeking forgiveness, visits Peddayya’s home. Peddayya, conflicted between his affection for Kishtayya and his own grief, stabs Kishtayya before being subdued. Varalu arrives, and Kishtayya, despite his injuries, proposes once more. The film concludes with a heartwarming scene of Kishtayya and Varalu, now married with a son named after Anji, embarking on their journey together.
This narrative intertwines themes of loyalty, love, and familial bonds, set against the backdrop of intense village politics and personal conflict.
