Summary:

In a post-apocalyptic 2077, Earth has been ravaged by an alien war, leaving it an uninhabitable wasteland. Plot:

The year is 2077, sixty years after a devastating war with an alien race called the Scavengers. Earth has been rendered uninhabitable, its Moon shattered, and humanity has evacuated to Titan, a moon of Saturn. Jack Harper (Tom Cruise), designated Tech-49, is a drone repairman, and his partner and lover, Victoria "Vika" Olsen (Andrea Riseborough), is his communications officer. They are the last two humans stationed on Earth, living in a sleek, high-tech sky tower above the clouds. Their mission is to protect massive hydro-rigs that convert seawater into fusion energy for the journey to Titan, while eliminating any remaining Scavenger threats. They communicate with an orbital station, the Tet, personified by their supervisor, Sally (Melissa Leo), who monitors their every move and enforces strict protocols, including a mandatory memory wipe for security reasons.

Despite the memory wipe, Jack is haunted by vivid dreams of a pre-war New York City and a mysterious woman. He often ventures into restricted zones on the surface, collecting artifacts from the old world, much to Vika's consternation, who strictly adheres to mission parameters. During one such excursion, Jack witnesses a massive energy signature and discovers an ancient spacecraft, the "Odyssey," crash-landing. Against Vika's warnings about Scavenger traps, Jack investigates and finds several human stasis pods. Before he can rescue them, a drone arrives and destroys all but one pod, which Jack manages to retrieve. Inside is a woman, Julia Rusakova (Olga Kurylenko), the woman from his dreams. Julia awakens, disoriented, and reveals she is an astronaut from a pre-war mission to Titan, the very mission Jack believes he was part of before the war.

Julia's presence creates tension between Jack and Vika. Vika is jealous and suspicious, demanding Julia be reported to Sally and questioning her identity, as Julia's flight manifest doesn't align with the official timeline. Jack, however, feels an undeniable connection to Julia. He takes her to his secret refuge, a cabin by a lake, a place he's built from his fragmented memories, where they spend the night. The next morning, a Scavenger trap captures them both. They are taken to an underground bunker, where Jack meets Malcolm Beech (Morgan Freeman), the leader of the Scavengers. Beech reveals that the "Scavengers" are actually human survivors, and the real enemy is the Tet. He explains that the Tet is an alien intelligence that destroyed Earth, cloned Jack and Vika, and uses them to maintain its hydro-rigs and eliminate the remaining human resistance. He shows Jack a captured drone with a power core that can destroy the Tet, but he needs Jack's help to activate it.

Initially skeptical, Jack refuses to believe Beech. He uses his knowledge of drone technology to escape with Julia, but not before Beech implants a tracking device in his arm. They return to the sky tower, where Vika is increasingly agitated by Jack's defiance of protocol and his bond with Julia. As Jack tries to make sense of the new information, Sally orders Vika to prepare Julia for transfer to the Tet. When a drone approaches the sky tower, alerted by Beech's tracker, Vika, consumed by fear and jealousy, tries to stop Jack and Julia from leaving. The drone, identifying Julia as an unauthorized human, fires, fatally wounding Vika. Jack and Julia escape in their bubble ship as the sky tower is destroyed.

Jack takes Julia to the coordinates Beech gave him, leading them to an area where he discovers another sky tower identical to his own. He encounters another Jack, Tech-52, repairing a drone. The two Jacks fight, and Tech-49 eventually subdues and knocks out Tech-52. This horrifying realization confirms Beech's story: Jack is one of many clones, each paired with a Vika clone, unknowingly serving the alien Tet. Jack and Julia return to Beech's bunker, now fully convinced of the truth. Beech reveals that Julia is Jack's actual wife from before the war, and he was the original commander of the Odyssey mission. The Tet intercepted their ship, cloned Jack, and used his knowledge to create the drones and maintain its operations.

Beech's plan is to send Jack (Tech-49) to the Tet with Julia, carrying the nuclear fuel cells from the drones, which will overload and destroy the alien station. Julia, however, insists on going with Jack, but Beech reveals that the Tet only expects one person from Earth. In a selfless act, Beech decides to take Julia's place, knowing he will likely die. Jack and Beech, disguised as a captured Jack and Julia, launch toward the Tet. Once inside, they navigate the labyrinthine corridors, reaching the central chamber where they confront "Sally," who manifests as a giant, glowing, triangular artificial intelligence. Sally reveals she is the Tet, the true alien entity that orchestrated Earth's destruction and subsequent resource extraction.

The Tet attempts to interrogate Jack, showing him images of his memories with Julia, trying to confuse him. Beech, severely wounded, makes a final, heroic sacrifice, activating the drone fuel cells. Jack, remembering his true love for Julia, stands by Beech's side as the Tet explodes in a blinding flash of light. The explosion destroys the Tet and sends a shockwave through space. Three years later, Julia is living in Jack's secret cabin by the lake, raising their daughter. One day, a new bubble ship descends, and out of it steps a group of human survivors, including Sykes (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), and another Jack clone, Tech-52, who has also recovered his memories and found his way to Julia and her daughter, completing the family Jack fought to protect.
