Plot:

Percy Jackson, a seemingly ordinary teenager with ADHD and dyslexia, lives a complicated life. During a school trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, his pre-algebra teacher, Mrs. Dodds, transforms into a monstrous Fury, accusing him of stealing a powerful item. Percy, aided by his Latin teacher, Mr. Brunner, who throws him a pen that becomes a sword, vaporizes the creature. The incident is immediately forgotten by everyone else, including a new substitute teacher, leaving Percy confused.

His world is further upended when his mother, Sally Jackson, reveals that Percy's father is a Greek god and his best friend, Grover Underwood, is a satyr, his protector. Their journey to a safe haven is interrupted by a fierce Minotaur attack. Sally sacrifices herself to save Percy, seemingly perishing in a golden flash. Percy, now alone, makes his way to the top of the Empire State Building, where he is confronted by Luke. Luke reveals himself as the true lightning thief and the mastermind behind the plot, driven by resentment towards the gods for their perceived neglect of their demigod children. He confesses to planting the bolt in Percy's bag, intending to ignite a war that would overthrow the Olympians.

A fierce duel erupts between Percy and Luke. Luke, armed with a powerful sword and superior training, battles Percy, who effectively utilizes his water-based powers, summoning water and creating geysers to defend himself.
