Summary:

Dale Denton, a stoned process server, witnesses a murder committed by a ruthless drug lord and a corrupt police officer. In his haste to escape, he drops a rare strain of weed, "Pineapple Express," linking his dealer, Saul Silver, to the crime scene.

Plot:

The story begins with Dale Denton, a process server with a significant marijuana habit, buying a rare strain called "Pineapple Express" from his laid-back dealer, Saul Silver. While attempting to serve papers, Dale witnesses drug lord Ted Jones and corrupt police officer Carol murder an Asian gang leader. In his panic, Dale flees, dropping his distinctive roach of Pineapple Express at the scene.

Ted and Carol identify the unique strain and trace it back to Saul, putting both Dale and Saul in grave danger. The duo goes on the run, initially trying to escape the city, but their plans are constantly thwarted by their own incompetence and the relentless pursuit of Ted's henchmen. They involve Saul's volatile supplier, Red, who initially betrays them but later comes to their aid. The escalating conflict culminates in a massive shootout at Ted's underground warehouse, where Dale, Saul, and Red fight for their lives against Ted and his crew. Despite injuries, they manage to escape and are last seen recovering in a diner, planning their next move out of town, their bond solidified by their shared ordeal.
