The film opens with a chaotic scene in a hospital. Thongs and Octopus, two friends with a knack for trouble, are fleeing, having just pilfered cash and cancer medication from the hospital safe. Their escape is complicated by a simultaneous event: the newborn baby of the wealthy Lee family is kidnapped by Max, the mother's vengeful ex-boyfriend. Security guards, initially focused on the fleeing thieves, redirect their attention to the more pressing matter of the kidnapped infant. A chase ensues, culminating in a violent struggle on an escalator where Max and the baby fall over the side. In a surprising twist, Thongs catches the falling baby, while Max meets his demise. Amidst the confusion, Thongs and Octopus seize the opportunity and escape in the Landlord's minivan, leaving the guards to deal with the aftermath.
Several months later, the Landlord returns to find his apartment ransacked and his life savings gone. Adding insult to injury, he receives a call from Uncle Seven, a shady middleman. Uncle Seven offers him a lucrative job: kidnap the Lee baby. The proposition comes from a powerful triad boss who claims the child is his grandson. The HK$7 million reward is too tempting to resist, and the Landlord, desperate for cash, recruits Thongs and Octopus for the job. The trio accept, unaware of the target until they've already snatched the infant from the Lee mansion. Thongs and Octopus are immediately repulsed by the idea of kidnapping a baby. Thongs, initially adamant about returning the child, is swayed by the Landlord's desperate pleas, revealing his own financial woes.
Their escape is fraught with complications. En route to their rendezvous in Sai Kung, they encounter a police roadblock. The Landlord, in a panic, attempts to outrun the police, resulting in a disastrous crash down a hill. With the police closing in, the Landlord, now trapped, orders Thongs and Octopus to flee with the baby, prioritizing the mission over his own predicament. While the Landlord is in custody for reckless driving, news reports reveal the immense value of the kidnapped baby, now a pawn in a larger game. The Landlord, realizing the potential for a bigger payday, contacts Thongs and instructs him not to hand over the baby until he is released, intending to leverage the situation for a higher price.
Over the next few days, Thongs and Octopus find themselves unexpectedly bonding with the baby. Caring for the infant triggers a sense of responsibility and remorse within them. Thongs struggles with his gambling addiction, while Octopus feels guilt for his infidelity towards his pregnant wife, Pak Yin. Meanwhile, the stakes are raised as both the triads and the police intensify their search for the baby. The triad boss, furious at the botched retrieval of his supposed grandson, dispatches his henchmen. Thongs and Octopus find themselves caught between the triads and Inspector Mok, forcing them to go into hiding with the baby.
Upon his release, the Landlord is brought before the triad boss, who, now desperate, increases his offer to a staggering HK$30 million. The Landlord then tracks down Thongs and Octopus at the hospital, where the baby is being treated for a fever. While the Landlord is focused on the money, Thongs and Octopus are genuinely concerned about the baby's well-being. Despite their attachment to the child, they reluctantly agree to deliver the baby to the triad boss's mansion, where the Landlord will collect the increased payment.
The handover is emotionally charged. As Thongs and Octopus prepare to leave, they hear the baby crying for them as a blood sample is taken. This triggers a flashback montage of their time together, highlighting the bond they have formed. Overcome with emotion, they decide to rescue the baby, despite the risk. While the Landlord makes off with the money, Thongs and Octopus fight their way into the triad boss's private amusement park to reclaim the infant. Thongs almost succeeds in escaping, but is forced to surrender when the triads threaten Octopus's life.
Thongs and Octopus are brought before the triad boss, who remains convinced the baby is his grandson. However, a blood test definitively proves him wrong. Driven to madness by grief and disappointment, the boss places the baby in a deep freeze room next to Max's corpse, intending for the child to be with his deceased son. This horrific act ignites a final act of heroism in Thongs and Octopus. They fight their way into the freezer room, only to be trapped with two henchmen. Just as hope seems lost, Inspector Mok arrives with the Landlord, who redeems himself by quickly unlocking the room.
Thongs and Octopus escape to the garage with the comatose baby. In a desperate attempt to revive him, Thongs uses a makeshift defibrillator powered by a car battery from a Pagani Zonda. Despite his efforts, the baby remains unresponsive and is rushed away in an ambulance, his heart barely beating.
The trio is imprisoned for kidnapping. During an open day at the prison, they volunteer for a mock capital punishment demonstration, using the opportunity to apologize to their loved ones. After the demonstration, Inspector Mok informs them that their sentences have been reduced. The film concludes with Thongs, Octopus, and the Landlord visiting the baby, now alive and well with his parents. As a gesture of gratitude for saving their child's life, the Lee family offers them jobs: bodyguard for Thongs, chauffeur for Octopus, and head of security for the Landlord.
