Hanumantha Rao and Vishwanath are old college buddies. Their young children, Prabha and Nandini respectively, are also friends. But in the 1980's they are separated as Vishwanath moves with his family from India to Switzerland. Years pass and Prabha is now a grown man and a leader of music group. When he rejects the advances of gangster's daughter, he finds himself in hot water. The gangster tries to force Prabha into marriage, and the only way to save himself is to convince the sentimental don that his heart is already taken. Prabha begins to narrate the story of his journey to Switzerland where he crossed paths once again with his childhood sweetheart Nandini.
The narrative unfolds in 1980 during a farewell party where a group of friends, including Hanumanta Rao and Vishwanath, make promises to stay connected. Hanumanta Rao has a son named Prabha, and Vishwanath has a daughter named Nandini. Vishwanath and Nandini travel to Switzerland for their professional goals, while Hanumanta Rao becomes a criminal lawyer in India. Consequently, Prabha and Nandini are separated during their childhood.
Years later, a reunion is organized, bringing together the grown-up Prabha, now a musician, and his childhood love interest Nandini. However, complications arise when Nisha, the daughter of a local don, attempts suicide after Prabha rejects her love. Her father, in retaliation, tries to harm Prabha and his friends. To escape the threat, Prabha concocts a story about his imaginary journey to Switzerland and a love affair with Nandini.
During a reunion at Bhadram's farmhouse, Prabha encounters Nandini, now a Cambridge graduate and gold medalist. Despite Prabha's attempts to impress her, Nandini's brother intervenes, creating obstacles for Prabha. To win Nandini's favor, Prabha uses strategic information about her favorite game, basketball, leading to the creation of a basketball court.
A rivalry ensues between Prabha and Rishi, the son of Appala Raju, as they vie for Nandini's affection. Meanwhile, Bhadram's daughter, Prasanna, confides in Prabha about her love and the need for a dowry. Prabha is coerced into convincing Bhadram to support Prasanna's marriage. The situation takes an emotional turn when Prabha, with the help of Hanumanta Rao and friends, prevents Bhadram from selling his house for the marriage expenses.
Following this incident, Nandini starts showing affection towards Prabha. Rivalry intensifies as Rishi's friends attempt to harm Prabha. In an unfortunate incident, Hanumanta Rao gets an electric shock, leading to a conflict between Prabha and Rishi. This results in Prabha's expulsion from the house.
Later, Prabha learns that Rishi is not Appala Raju's son but Vishwanath's nephew. Vishwanath had married against his father's wishes, supported by Hanumanta Rao. Hanumanta Rao negotiates for Vishwanath's reconciliation with his father. The condition is set that Vishwanath's daughter's son must marry Nandini.
Faced with this dilemma, Prabha decides not to reveal his love for Nandini to save his father's reputation. As he prepares to leave, Nandini discloses her love for him, admitting that she was playing hard to get. However, Prabha, prioritizing his father's honor, refrains from professing his love, leaving Nandini heartbroken.
The truth about Prabha's fabricated story unfolds, and Nandini realizes the sacrifice he made to protect his father. Nisha's father, understanding the deception, attempts to harm Prabha. Meanwhile, Nandini, angry at Hanumanta Rao, injures herself intentionally. She expresses her love for Prabha to Vishwanath, who, moved by her emotions, agrees to their union, defying the earlier condition.
In the climactic scene, Prabha faces violence from Nisha's father, but Nandini intervenes, pleading for Prabha's life. Overwhelmed by Nandini's love, Nisha's father relents, allowing Prabha and Nandini to escape. The story concludes with Prabha and Nandini finally getting married, overcoming obstacles, and embracing a joyful life together.
