Summary:
Madhuravel, a seemingly ordinary vegetable vendor in Chennai, is a beloved do-gooder and protector of the local market. However, his simple life hides a powerful past: he was once an honest and proactive District Collector in Madurai who challenged a powerful local don. Framed for murder and forced into hiding, he now lives a dual life, waiting for the right moment to expose the truth and dismantle the criminal empire that ruined him.
Plot (Movie Story):
The film opens in Chennai, introducing Madhuravel (Vijay), who appears to be a humble and jovial vegetable vendor in a bustling market. He is known for his helpful nature, a strong sense of justice, and his willingness to stand up to local bullies and loan sharks. He lives with his "mother" Kamakshi (Seetha) and her two daughters, Susheela (Sonia Agarwal) and another younger sister. Madhuravel is adored by the market community, and his friend Pandu (Vadivelu) often serves as his comedic sidekick. A young woman named Anitha (Rakshitha), who is doing a project on market life, falls for Madhuravel's charismatic personality and eventually wins his love.
The first half of the film showcases Madhuravel's everyday life and his interactions in the market, interspersed with action sequences where he fights off thugs and establishes his benevolent dominance. There are subtle hints about his hidden past, such as a policeman saluting him, which raises questions about his true identity.
The plot takes a dramatic turn when Susheela, who works closely with Madhuravel, is tragically killed. Her mother, Kamakshi, distraught and believing Madhuravel is responsible, shoots him. This incident triggers a lengthy flashback, revealing Madhuravel's true identity and past.
It is revealed that Madhuravel was originally Maduravel IAS, the District Collector of Madurai. He was an upright, fearless, and proactive civil servant who believed in taking direct action to solve the city's problems, often stepping into the shoes of the police to deliver swift justice. This brought him into direct conflict with KTR (Pasupathy), a powerful and ruthless don who ran a parallel legal system in Madurai with his own "court" and enforcers, effectively being a law unto himself.
Maduravel IAS strongly opposed KTR's illegal activities and his parallel authority. A major clash ensues between the collector and the don. During this conflict, Susheela, who was Maduravel's personal assistant at the time, is killed. KTR cleverly frames Maduravel for her murder, causing him to be wrongly accused and hunted by the very system he served.
To escape injustice and plan his revenge, Maduravel goes underground, disguising himself as a vegetable vendor in Chennai, adopting the name Madhuravel. His aim is to dismantle KTR's empire from the shadows and clear his name. He has carefully planned his return, patiently waiting for the opportune moment.
The second half of the film shifts back to the present, focusing on Madhuravel's mission to expose KTR and bring him to justice. He begins to systematically undermine KTR's operations, using his knowledge from his past as a collector. The confrontations between Madhuravel and KTR become more intense and personal. Anitha, now fully aware of Madhuravel's true identity and past, stands by him, supporting his quest for justice.
The climax involves a final, epic showdown between Madhuravel and KTR, where Madhuravel reveals his true identity and meticulously exposes KTR's crimes and the truth behind Susheela's murder. The film concludes with Madhuravel succeeding in his mission, bringing down KTR, and clearing his own name, restoring justice to the city he once served.
