Plot:

The film opens in 1891 London, with the brilliant but eccentric detective Sherlock Holmes and his steadfast partner, Dr. John Watson, racing through the city's underbelly. They arrive just in time to interrupt a ritualistic murder being performed by the enigmatic Lord Henry Blackwood. Blackwood, a self-proclaimed dark sorcerer, has already claimed five victims and is about to sacrifice his sixth, a young woman. Holmes and Watson apprehend Blackwood, who calmly warns Holmes that more deaths will follow, beyond the grave. Three months later, Blackwood is sentenced to hang. Watson, serving as a physician, confirms Blackwood's death after the execution. Shortly thereafter, Holmes's life at 221B Baker Street is disrupted by Watson's announcement of his engagement to Mary Morstan, signaling an impending departure from their shared residence and detective partnership, much to Holmes's subtle dismay.

However, the peace is shattered when Inspector Lestrade of Scotland Yard requests Holmes's assistance. Blackwood's tomb has been desecrated, and the coffin ripped open from the inside.
