Summary:

In the mystical land of Stormhold, beyond the wall of a quiet English village, a young man named Tristan Thorne promises his beloved Victoria to retrieve a fallen star. Plot:

The story begins in the village of Wall, bordering the magical kingdom of Stormhold. Young Tristan Thorne, smitten with the village beauty Victoria, promises to retrieve a fallen star for her from beyond the wall. Crossing into Stormhold, he discovers the star is a celestial woman named Yvaine. Their journey back to Wall is fraught with danger, as Yvaine is pursued by three ancient witch-queens, led by the formidable Lamia, who intends to cut out Yvaine's heart to restore her youth and power. Simultaneously, the remaining sons of the deceased King of Stormhold are also hunting Yvaine, as she unwittingly carries a magical ruby that will determine the next king.

During their travels, Tristan and Yvaine encounter various magical beings, including the flamboyant sky pirate Captain Shakespeare, who helps them escape Lamia's clutches. As they grow closer, Tristan realizes his feelings for Victoria are superficial compared to the deep bond he develops with Yvaine. The climactic confrontation sees Tristan, Yvaine, and the last surviving prince, Septimus, facing off against Lamia and her sisters, culminating in the revelation of Tristan's true lineage as the rightful heir to the throne of Stormhold. With the witches defeated and the succession resolved, Tristan and Yvaine embrace their destiny, ruling Stormhold together.
