Plot:

The film opens with a high-speed car chase through the streets of Mumbai, culminating in a dramatic crash where a prominent film star, Armaan Kapoor, drives his car off a cliff and into the sea. Inspector Surjan Singh Shekhawat (Aamir Khan) is assigned to the case. Surjan is a man weighed down by immense grief; his 8-year-old son, Karan, died in a car accident three years prior, an incident for which Surjan blames himself, as he was driving and distracted at the time. This unresolved trauma has created a deep rift between him and his wife, Roshni (Rani Mukerji), who struggles to cope with her own loss and Surjan's emotional withdrawal. Roshni seeks solace in a support group led by Frenny (Shernaz Patel), who claims to be a medium and can communicate with the deceased, much to Surjan's skepticism.

Surjan's investigation into Armaan Kapoor's death quickly reveals inconsistencies. The accident seems too deliberate, too perfect, for a simple drunken driving incident. Shashi is later found murdered, seemingly by Teji, who then attempts to flee. Surjan apprehends Teji, who reveals that he killed Shashi out of fear after Shashi threatened to expose him. However, Teji's testimony doesn't fully explain Armaan's death or Rosie's role. During this time, Surjan's visions of Karan become more frequent and vivid, often appearing at critical junctures, offering subtle guidance or simply reflecting his deep-seated guilt. Roshni, meanwhile, uses Frenny's mediumship to try and communicate with Karan, hoping to find closure, much to Surjan's initial disbelief and anger.

Simran had been in a relationship with Armaan Kapoor's father, a powerful figure, and was subsequently killed in a hit-and-run accident, which was covered up. Surjan realizes that Rosie's warnings and information are too precise to be mere speculation. He pieces together that Simran was the victim of a conspiracy involving several influential men who wanted to silence her.

The climax of the film brings a shocking revelation. Surjan, guided by Rosie's final, most direct hint, revisits the site of Armaan Kapoor's accident. He finds a crucial piece of evidence – a locket – which connects to Simran. As he confronts the full truth, the film reveals that Rosie is not a living person; she is the ghost of Simran. Three years ago, on the same night Karan died, Simran was murdered. She was hit by a car driven by Armaan Kapoor (the son), who was high on drugs, after being pushed into the street by his father's henchmen. Armaan, in a panic, drove off, leaving her to die. However, Simran was not dead. She crawled to the edge of the cliff, just as Surjan was driving past with Karan. Distracted by his phone, Surjan swerved, causing his own accident, which resulted in Karan's death. Simran, bleeding and witnessing the tragedy, then fell into the sea, where she finally succumbed to her injuries.

It is revealed that Armaan Kapoor (the son) had been haunted by Simran's ghost since that night. Overcome with guilt and terror, he was constantly pursued by her apparition, which led him to drive his car off the cliff three years later, effectively committing suicide to escape her torment. Rosie (Simran's ghost) had been guiding Surjan throughout the investigation, not only to bring justice to her own death but also to help Surjan find closure for Karan's death. She knew that Surjan was also a victim of that fateful night, and by solving her murder, he would indirectly understand his own son's fate. The visions of Karan that Surjan experienced were not just his grief manifesting; they were Karan's spirit, perhaps nudged by Simran, trying to reach out to his father.

The final scene shows Surjan finally accepting the supernatural truth and coming to terms with his son's death. He reconciles with Roshni, understanding that their shared grief can be a bridge, not a barrier.
