Daya’s world was painted in shades of easy money and authority. As a child, growing up an orphan, he saw the local police not as protectors, but as figures of power, their hands outstretched for bribes, their lives seemingly devoid of hardship. This warped perception, a seed planted in his vulnerable mind, blossomed into a dangerous ambition: to become a policeman himself. He envisioned a life of comfort, where the uniform was a license for indulgence.
Years passed, and Daya, fueled by his misguided aspirations, found himself a Sub-Inspector. The system, as he saw it, was ripe for exploitation, and he embraced it wholeheartedly. His transfer to Vishakapatnam marked a turning point, a descent into the murky depths of corruption. He quickly forged an alliance with Waltair Vasu, a local don whose influence permeated the city like a noxious fog. The partnership was lucrative, a steady stream of illicit gains flowing into Daya’s pockets.
However, his actions did not go unnoticed. Narayana Murthy, an honest constable under Daya’s command, watched with growing disgust as his superior’s corruption eroded the integrity of the force. The breaking point came when Daya, in a blatant display of his allegiance to Vasu, released his four younger brothers – Ravi, Mani, Vamsi, and Sundeep – from prison. They had been apprehended for smuggling on Gandhi Jayanti, a day meant to symbolize peace and integrity. Murthy’s respect for Daya evaporated, replaced by a deep-seated resentment.
Amidst this web of corruption, Daya found himself drawn to Saanvi, a compassionate member of the Blue Cross. Her dedication to animal welfare and her genuine kindness stood in stark contrast to the darkness that surrounded him. He began to woo her, and to his surprise, she reciprocated his feelings.
The fragile peace was shattered on Saanvi’s birthday. Vasu’s henchmen, mistaking her for another girl, abducted her. Daya, driven by a newfound sense of protectiveness, fought them off, rescuing her from their clutches. Vasu, arriving on the scene, cleared the confusion and apologized, allowing Daya and Saanvi to leave.
Saanvi, grateful for Daya’s bravery, made an unusual birthday request: to save the actual target of the abduction, a girl named Lakshmi. Daya, despite his ties to Vasu, found himself unable to refuse. He intervened, saving Lakshmi from Vasu’s clutches, an act that deeply angered the don.
A precarious truce was brokered. Vasu, eager to avoid further conflict with Daya, agreed to relinquish his plans to murder Lakshmi if Daya could retrieve a crucial piece of evidence she possessed. This evidence, Vasu revealed, implicated his brothers in a heinous crime.
Daya, now caught between his loyalty to Vasu and his growing sense of conscience, approached Lakshmi. She revealed a horrifying truth: her younger sister, Deepthi, had been brutally raped and murdered after enduring forty days of torture at the hands of Vasu’s brothers. They had filmed the entire ordeal, storing the footage on a CD. Lakshmi had discovered this disc and entrusted it to Daya, pleading with him to bring the perpetrators to justice.
Daya, under the guise of ensuring Lakshmi and her mother’s safety, arranged for them to leave for the United States, where Lakshmi had a job waiting. He also recalled a forgotten detail. Lakshmi’s mother had approached him days earlier, reporting Deepthi missing. He had dismissed her concerns, attributing her daughter’s disappearance to an elopement, a callous dismissal born of his inherent laziness and corruption. He now understood the devastating consequences of his inaction.
At the airport, Lakshmi’s words struck a chord within Daya. She spoke of hope, of justice, and of the enduring strength of the human spirit. Her words, coupled with the weight of his past actions, triggered a profound transformation. He realized that he was complicit in Deepthi’s murder, his corruption having paved the way for the brothers’ horrific crime.
Vasu’s henchmen arrived at the police station, demanding the disc. Murthy, witnessing Daya’s internal struggle, urged him to embrace his humanity, to right the wrongs he had committed. Daya, finally recognizing the path to redemption, fought off the henchmen, determined to bring the brothers to justice. He confessed his past actions to Saanvi, and she, seeing the genuine change in him, forgave him.
The discovery of Deepthi’s mutilated body on a beach sent shockwaves through the nation. The brutality of the crime was so extreme that even the seasoned doctors who performed the autopsy were deeply disturbed. In court, Daya’s lawyer presented the disc as evidence. However, it had been tampered with, rendering it useless. Daya realized that his lawyer was working with Vasu, a betrayal that left him reeling.
Adding to the tragedy, Lakshmi’s mother, upon learning of Deepthi’s death, suffered a heart attack in the United States. Daya, consumed by guilt and remorse, vowed to bring the brothers to justice, even if it meant sacrificing his own life.
In a shocking turn of events, Daya confessed in court that he had been an accomplice to the crime, claiming he had also assaulted Deepthi. His confession stunned everyone, especially Saanvi and Murthy, who refused to believe he was capable of such depravity. The judge, bound by the law, sentenced Daya and the four brothers to death.
Lakshmi, learning of Daya’s sacrifice, contacted Murthy. She revealed that she had kept a backup copy of the murder footage. This copy, shared with the media, proved Daya’s innocence. His death sentence was overturned, while the four brothers, in a desperate attempt to escape their fate, initiated a brawl with the police.
Daya, driven by a righteous fury, fought the brothers, killing three of them. The fourth brother, fearing Daya’s wrath, committed suicide at the gallows. Daya, exonerated and redeemed, was released from prison and reinstated into the police service. He reconciled with Saanvi and Murthy, his journey from corruption to redemption complete.
