Terminator Salvation (2009)
Summary:
Set in a post-apocalyptic 2018, Terminator Salvation follows a grim world where the remnants of humanity are fighting for survival against Skynet's army of machines. John Connor, the prophesied leader of the resistance, discovers a mysterious new prototype Terminator, the T-800, that is capable of human-like infiltration. His mission to destroy Skynet is complicated by the arrival of Marcus Wright, a man who believes he is human but is revealed to be a new kind of machine-human hybrid. The film is a dark and gritty look at the war between man and machine, focusing on the resistance's desperate struggle to survive and John Connor's transformation into the leader he is destined to be.
Detailed Plot (Movie Story):
The film begins in 2003, with a condemned man named Marcus Wright (Sam Worthington) signing over his body to a company called Cyberdyne Systems for medical research just before his execution.
The story then jumps to a post-apocalyptic 2018, thirteen years after "Judgment Day." The world is a wasteland, and the remnants of humanity are fighting for survival against the machines created by Skynet. John Connor (Christian Bale), who is now a commander in the resistance, is on a mission to track down Skynet and destroy it once and for all.
During a reconnaissance mission, John discovers a top-secret Skynet facility and a new kind of Terminator prototype, a T-800. He also finds a group of human prisoners, one of whom is Marcus Wright. Marcus, who has no memory of the past, is a confused and disoriented man who believes he is a human. John, out of a sense of duty, agrees to help Marcus get to the human resistance.
The film's plot becomes a complex web of deception and betrayal. Marcus, John, and a young Kyle Reese (Anton Yelchin) travel through the desolate landscape, fighting against a new type of Terminator, the Moto-Terminators, and the massive Harvesters. During a tense confrontation, Marcus is injured, and it is revealed that he is a cyborg, a machine-human hybrid.
The twist in the plot is that Marcus's body was a part of a failed experiment by Cyberdyne Systems. He was a human who was transformed into a machine, and he is a prototype for a new kind of Terminator. Skynet, which has been observing John Connor and his movements, has a hidden agenda for Marcus: he is a sleeper agent who is designed to infiltrate the human resistance and kill John Connor.
John, who initially trusted Marcus, is now forced to make a difficult choice. He must decide whether to kill Marcus or to use him as an ally. The film's climax is a high-stakes showdown. John and Marcus, who have formed a fragile alliance, go to Skynet's central processing unit to destroy it. They must fight against a series of powerful Termintors, including the T-800 prototype, which is an exact replica of the machine that will be sent back in time to kill Sarah Connor.
In a final act of sacrifice, Marcus, who has now come to terms with his identity as a machine, gives his heart to John, who is fatally wounded in the final battle. The film ends with John Connor recovering and becoming the leader he is destined to be, and the human resistance getting a new hope.
