Plot:
As a child, Peter Parker is left with his Aunt May and Uncle Ben after his parents mysteriously disappear. Years later, Peter is a brilliant but socially awkward high school student at Midtown Science High School. He discovers his father's old briefcase containing research notes, which leads him to Oscorp and Dr. Curt Connors, a former colleague of his father who is attempting to cross-species genetics to regrow limbs.
During a visit to Oscorp, Peter is bitten by a genetically modified spider and soon develops superhuman abilities, including enhanced strength, agility, and a "spider-sense." After failing to stop a thief who later kills his Uncle Ben, Peter is consumed by guilt and begins using his powers to hunt criminals, eventually crafting the identity of Spider-Man. He forms a romantic relationship with Gwen Stacy, a brilliant intern at Oscorp and the daughter of NYPD Captain George Stacy.
Peter assists Connors with his research, inadvertently providing the missing piece for Connors' serum, which he tests on himself. While initially successful in regenerating his arm, the serum has a monstrous side effect, transforming Connors into the Lizard. The Lizard plans to infect the entire city with his serum, believing it will make everyone "whole." Spider-Man must then confront his former mentor in a series of escalating battles across the city, striving to protect Gwen and prevent the Lizard's plan from coming to fruition, ultimately revealing his identity to Captain Stacy before the final confrontation.
