Summary:

Set in the same universe as the Jason Bourne films, "The Bourne Legacy" introduces a new hero, Aaron Cross, an operative from a top-secret black-ops program called Operation Outcome. Plot:

Following Jason Bourne's public exposure of the Treadstone and Blackbriar programs, the CIA's Black Ops division activates a contingency plan to shut down all related clandestine operations, including the more advanced Operation Outcome. Colonel Eric Byer, the architect of Outcome, orders the termination of all agents and scientists involved to prevent further leaks. Aaron Cross, an Outcome agent undergoing a training exercise in Alaska, narrowly survives an assassination attempt. Simultaneously, in the U.S., Dr. Marta Shearing, a geneticist working on Outcome, survives a mass shooting at her secluded lab by a rogue agent who kills her colleagues, but she is targeted for elimination herself.

Cross, whose genetic enhancements depend on regular doses of specialized "chems" (blue pills for physical and green pills for mental enhancement), realizes he needs Shearing's help to acquire more medication before his enhancements wear off and he suffers severe, potentially fatal, withdrawal. He rescues Shearing from another assassination attempt at her home, and together they flee, hunted relentlessly by Byer's security forces. Their journey leads them to Manila, where the original viral strains for the chems were developed, hoping to find a permanent solution to Cross's dependency. Along the way, they uncover the full extent of Operation Outcome's unethical practices and Byer's ruthless determination to erase all traces of the program, including Cross and Shearing, to protect the agency's secrets.
