Summary:

Plot:

The Counselor, a successful but unnamed lawyer based in El Paso, Texas, proposes to his girlfriend, Laura, and buys her an expensive diamond ring. In an attempt to secure quick money for his lifestyle and upcoming marriage, he agrees to participate in a lucrative but dangerous drug deal. His associates are the eccentric club owner Reiner and the cynical middleman Westray. The plan involves transporting a large quantity of cocaine from Mexico to the United States using a sewage truck.

However, the plan goes disastrously wrong when the truck is intercepted by an unknown group, and the drugs are stolen. The cartel responsible for the shipment demands restitution from the Counselor, threatening him and Laura. Despite Westray's warnings about the cartel's ruthless nature and his advice to disappear, the Counselor desperately tries to find a solution. As the situation escalates, the Counselor discovers the true extent of the cartel's power and their willingness to inflict unspeakable violence. He receives a chilling message and a diamond from the cartel, signifying Laura's capture. Despite his pleas and attempts to negotiate, the cartel's justice is swift and absolute, leaving the Counselor to face the profound and tragic consequences of his greed.
