Summary:

After getting into trouble with the law in America due to illegal street racing, rebellious teenager Sean Boswell is sent to live with his estranged father in Tokyo. Struggling to adapt to a new culture, he soon discovers the thrilling world of drift racing, an underground motorsport where drivers skillfully slide cars through corners.

Sean quickly finds himself in over his head, making enemies with Takashi, known as "D.K." (Drift King), who has ties to the Yakuza. Under the mentorship of the enigmatic Han Lue, Sean learns the art of drifting and navigates the dangerous high-stakes world of Tokyo's street racing scene, risking everything to prove himself.

Plot:

Sean Boswell, a troubled high school student, repeatedly gets into street racing accidents, leading to his relocation to Tokyo to avoid jail time. In Japan, he struggles to fit in until he's introduced to the underground world of drift racing by Twinkie. He quickly challenges and loses to Takashi, the "Drift King," who is connected to the Yakuza through his uncle, Kamata. Han Lue, Takashi's business partner, bails Sean out and takes him under his wing, teaching him the intricate techniques of drift racing and providing him with a car.

As Sean's skills improve, he becomes more immersed in the racing culture and develops feelings for Neela, Takashi's girlfriend, further escalating the rivalry. This leads to a dangerous confrontation where Han's illicit business dealings with Kamata are exposed, resulting in Han's tragic death during a chase. To settle the score and protect Neela, Sean challenges Takashi to a final, perilous drift race down a treacherous mountain pass, with the loser leaving Tokyo.
