Plot:

An unnamed professional ghostwriter, simply known as "The Ghost," is hired to finish the autobiography of former British Prime Minister Adam Lang, whose previous writer died in an apparent accident. The Ghost travels to a secluded island off the coast of Massachusetts, where Lang is staying with his wife Ruth and assistant Amelia Bly. Lang is embroiled in a major political scandal, accused of authorizing the illegal rendition of suspected terrorists, leading to calls for his prosecution for war crimes.

As The Ghost begins working on the manuscript, he finds inconsistencies and discovers that the previous writer had uncovered compromising information about Lang. He unearths clues left behind by his predecessor, including a hidden phone number and a photograph, which lead him to investigate a deeper conspiracy involving the CIA and Lang's past. The more he uncovers, the more dangerous his situation becomes, as he realizes he has stumbled upon a truth that powerful forces want to keep buried, ultimately leading to a shocking and deadly conclusion.
