Summary:

Plot:

Following the events of "The Desolation of Smaug," the dragon Smaug is awakened and flies to Laketown, where he unleashes fiery destruction. Bard the Bowman, with the aid of his son Bain, ultimately slays Smaug with a black arrow, but Laketown is left in ruins. Thorin Oakenshield, now consumed by dragon-sickness and the overwhelming desire to find the Arkenstone, fortifies Erebor, refusing to share its vast treasure with the homeless people of Laketown or the elves of Mirkwood, led by Thranduil, who arrive seeking ancient Elven gems.

Meanwhile, Gandalf is rescued from Dol Guldur by Galadriel, Elrond, and Saruman, who confront and temporarily banish Sauron's Necromancer form. As tensions escalate around Erebor, an immense army of Orcs, led by Azog the Defiler and Bolg, marches towards the Lonely Mountain, commanded by Sauron to secure its strategic position.
