Plot:

The story opens with Mowgli, a "man-cub," being taught the ways of the jungle by his adoptive wolf father, Akela, and his mentor, the black panther Bagheera. He struggles to keep up with his wolf siblings, often relying on "man-tricks" – ingenious uses of tools and leverage – which Bagheera discourages, insisting Mowgli learn to live strictly by the jungle's laws. Mowgli was found as an infant by Bagheera after his human father was killed by the fearsome Bengal tiger, Shere Khan. Bagheera brought Mowgli to the wolf pack led by Akela and Raksha, a nurturing mother wolf who raised Mowgli as her own alongside her cubs. During a severe drought, a "Water Truce" is declared, allowing all animals to drink peacefully from the last remaining water hole, the Peace Rock. It is here that Shere Khan makes his ominous appearance, his scarred face a testament to a past encounter with man's "red flower" (fire). He catches Mowgli's scent and sees him among the wolves, immediately demanding the man-cub be surrendered, arguing that man has no place in the jungle. Akela defies Shere Khan, asserting that Mowgli is part of their pack. Shere Khan warns that when the rains return and the truce ends, he will come back for Mowgli. Fearing for the safety of his wolf family, Mowgli decides to leave the jungle. Bagheera volunteers to escort him to the human village, believing it is the only safe place for him. Their journey is fraught with danger. Shere Khan ambushes them, attacking Bagheera and seemingly killing him, though Bagheera later recovers. Mowgli flees alone and encounters Kaa, a massive python with a mesmerizing voice and hypnotic gaze. Kaa ensnares Mowgli, recounting his past – how Shere Khan killed his biological father, leaving Mowgli orphaned – and attempts to devour him. Just as Kaa tightens her coils, the lazy but cunning bear Baloo intervenes, saving Mowgli by distracting Kaa and sending her tumbling away. Baloo, a lover of honey, quickly takes advantage of Mowgli's human ingenuity. He discovers Mowgli's ability to climb trees and retrieve honey from precarious locations, convincing the man-cub to help him stock up for his hibernation. Mowgli, grateful for the rescue and enjoying Baloo's carefree lifestyle, agrees. A deep bond forms between the two, with Mowgli learning to appreciate his human abilities for practical purposes. Bagheera eventually tracks Mowgli down, furious that he has not reached the human village and disapproving of Baloo's selfish use of Mowgli. Bagheera reveals Shere Khan's continued hunt for Mowgli, emphasizing the danger to the wolf pack. Their discussion is cut short when Mowgli is suddenly abducted by a troop of mischievous monkeys, the Bandar-log, who deliver him to their colossal, ancient leader, King Louie, an orangutan-like Gigantopithecus. Louie resides in a crumbling temple, a relic of a past human civilization. King Louie, obsessed with obtaining the "red flower" (fire) and the power it represents, believes Mowgli, as a man-cub, holds the secret to creating it. He attempts to intimidate Mowgli into revealing the secret, but Mowgli genuinely doesn't know how to make fire. During their tense encounter, Louie inadvertently reveals that Shere Khan has killed Akela, the wolf pack leader, as a direct consequence of Mowgli's refusal to leave the jungle, and is now terrorizing the pack to draw Mowgli out. Devastated by Akela's death and furious at Shere Khan, Mowgli escapes with the help of Baloo and Bagheera, who had launched a daring rescue mission. As they flee, King Louie's temple collapses around him, seemingly crushing the giant ape. Mowgli, now driven by grief and a desire for vengeance, decides to confront Shere Khan. He runs to the nearby human village, where he steals a burning torch, the "red flower" that the jungle animals so fear. Returning to the jungle, Mowgli finds Shere Khan cornering Raksha and the wolf pups at the Peace Rock, demanding Mowgli reveal himself. Mowgli appears, torch in hand, confronting Shere Khan directly. The tiger, initially unfazed, warns Mowgli against using man's destructive power. Mowgli, however, uses the fire to lure Shere Khan into a trap. He sets the jungle ablaze, creating a chaotic stampede of animals fleeing the inferno. Shere Khan pursues Mowgli through the burning forest. Mowgli leads Shere Khan to a dead tree overlooking a fiery chasm. He uses his "man-tricks" – tying vines to branches – to set a trap. As Shere Khan lunges, Mowgli cleverly drops the burning torch, causing the dry branches to ignite. Mowgli leaps to safety, while Shere Khan, blinded by rage, misses his footing and falls into the fiery abyss below, consumed by the flames. With Shere Khan defeated, the animals of the jungle, including the elephants whose respect Mowgli had earned earlier by removing a thorn from one of their young, work together to extinguish the spreading wildfire by diverting a river. The jungle is saved, and Mowgli, having used his human abilities not for destruction but for justice and protection, is finally accepted fully by all its inhabitants. He no longer needs to choose between being a man or an animal; he has found his unique place as a bridge between both worlds, living harmoniously with his animal family. Raksha takes her place as the new leader of the wolf pack, and Mowgli, Baloo, and Bagheera settle into a new, balanced life together.
