Summary:

Daniel LaRusso, a teenager who moves to Reseda, California, quickly finds himself the target of a gang of bullies who are students of the Cobra Kai dojo. Feeling helpless and alone, Daniel's life takes an unexpected turn when he is befriended by his apartment building's eccentric handyman, Mr. Miyagi, a quiet and wise martial arts master.

Mr. Miyagi agrees to teach Daniel karate, but his methods are unconventional, involving seemingly mundane chores that secretly impart fundamental defensive techniques. Through Miyagi's guidance, Daniel learns not only physical skills but also discipline, balance, and inner peace, preparing him to face his adversaries in the All-Valley Karate Tournament.

Plot:

After moving from Newark, New Jersey, to Reseda, California, with his single mother, Daniel LaRusso struggles to adapt. He quickly becomes the target of Johnny Lawrence and his Cobra Kai gang, who are highly skilled in karate. Following a severe beating, Daniel is rescued by Mr. Miyagi, the unassuming maintenance man of his apartment complex, who reveals himself to be a martial arts master. Miyagi agrees to teach Daniel karate, but only if Daniel agrees to enter the upcoming All-Valley Karate Tournament to settle his conflict with the Cobra Kai students.

Miyagi's training methods are unorthodox; he has Daniel perform various chores like waxing cars, sanding floors, and painting fences. Daniel initially grows frustrated, believing he's being exploited, but soon realizes these repetitive tasks are subtly teaching him defensive blocks and stances. Beyond the physical training, Miyagi imparts crucial life lessons about balance, discipline, and the true purpose of karate, emphasizing defense and inner peace over aggression. Daniel also begins a romantic relationship with Ali Mills, Johnny's ex-girlfriend, further fueling the rivalry.

At the tournament, Daniel faces numerous Cobra Kai opponents, including Johnny. Despite suffering a debilitating leg injury from a deliberate foul by a Cobra Kai sensei, Daniel courageously continues. In the final match against Johnny, Daniel employs the legendary "crane kick," a technique Miyagi taught him. He defeats Johnny, earning the respect of his peers, the crowd, and even some of his former adversaries, proving that balance and spirit can overcome brute force.
