Plot:

The story begins with Luke Collins, a professional bull rider determined to make a comeback after a serious injury, and Sophia Danko, an art history major in her final semester, preparing for an internship in New York City. They meet at a bull riding event and quickly fall for each other despite their vastly different aspirations and lifestyles. Their budding romance faces immediate challenges due to Luke's dangerous profession and Sophia's career ambitions that would take her far from Luke's rural North Carolina home.

One evening, after a date, Luke and Sophia rescue an elderly man, Ira Levinson, from a car crash. They retrieve a box of old letters from his car, and Sophia begins to read them to Ira as he recovers in the hospital.
