THE MIST (2007)

Summary:

Following a violent storm, a small town in Maine is suddenly enveloped by a thick, unnatural mist. A group of locals, including artist David Drayton and his young son, become trapped inside a supermarket as horrifying, otherworldly creatures begin to emerge from the impenetrable fog, attacking anyone who ventures outside.

As the survivors barricade themselves, fear and paranoia escalate, testing their humanity and pushing them to the brink. The external threat of the monsters is soon matched by internal conflict, as a fanatical religious zealot gains influence, leading to a terrifying struggle for survival against both the unknown and human nature itself.

Plot:

David Drayton, his son Billy, and neighbor Brent Norton are among those who seek refuge in a supermarket after a mysterious mist descends. They soon discover that the mist harbors grotesque, predatory creatures. Tensions rise rapidly among the trapped survivors as the reality of their situation sets in, and supplies begin to dwindle. A deeply religious woman, Mrs. Carmody, starts to preach about divine judgment and the need for sacrifice, slowly swaying a desperate portion of the group.

After several failed attempts to escape and a growing schism within the supermarket, David decides to risk it all with a small group of rational individuals to find help or a way out. Their journey through the mist is fraught with danger and culminates in a devastating, nihilistic climax that challenges the very definition of hope and survival, leaving a profound and tragic impact on David and the audience.
